Scope choice?

  New member needs peer pressure.  Rifle is .260 Rem. #6 Douglas barrel, 22" long, scope choices are as follows:

Burris Eurodiamond 3-12x50, illuminated #4, 30 mm tube.
Meopta Artemis (meostar) 3-12x56, illuminated #4C dot, 30 mm tube.
Nikon Monarch Gold 2.5-10x50 or 56, non-illuminated #4, 30 mm tube.
Nikon Monarch UCC 6.5-20x44, illuminated nikoplex, 1 " tube.

Would really prefer an illuminated reticle, this rifle will be used for deer and coyotes out to 300-400 yards.  I know all are good scopes, would really like to know more about the Burris.  I have the Meopta in non-ill. and the Nikon mon. ucc. in non-ill. and really like them both.  I just want to consider all options.  Opinions and experience appreciated.

Welcome Crackshot,  

I have only had experience with one of these scopes, the Nikon Monarch, and it was not illuminated.  It is a good scope but I would much rather have one with a consistent eye relief that does not change as you turn up the magnification of the scope.  To me this disqualifies most scopes from what I would consider purchasing.  So other than this small opinion I just wanted to welcome you to Graybeard Outdoors.  Probably the best hunting/shooting forum on the net.

This is probably gonna piss you off. Sorry bout that but it needs to be said anyway.

You DO NOT have a 400 yard rifle so what the heck do you need a 1000 yard scope for? I've hunted in Bama all of my life and have yet to run into a legal shooting situation not well handled by a quality 1" tube scope with 40 mm objective. Something in the 3-9 or even 2-7 range is plenty.

Just get you a 2-7 or 3-9 range 1" tube scope with 40 mm objective. Some thing like the Bushnell Elite 3200 or Leupold VX-II. Save some money and have a scope better suited to the rifle you have and game you'll hunt.

I'll second that recommendation for the Mueller illuminated optics! I have the Eradicator and a 4-16x50 Sport Dot, extremely nice scopes for the money and the illuminated dot is of tremendous value in low light situtations. The nice thing about the Muellers is the dot doesn't need to be on all the time to use the scope during normal daylight, but sure is nice when the light is low or you are in dark canopied forest and heavy timber. From all that I have learned about the Mueller, they have excellent customer service and are extremely nice to work with and turn around time for replacement scopes is within a few days, not unlike more expensive optics like Sightron. No, Greybeard, your comments do not piss me off in the least.  I appreciate your informative and honest response.  That is one of the reasons I wanted to join this forum for prompt and honest responses.  I am a member on other forums and hunting optic questions don't get answered sometimes at all.  I have thought about your recommendations I am thinking about changing my way of thinking and looking into the Zeiss Conquest in a 3x9x40 or the 3.5x10x44, or a number of Bushnell 3200 and 4200, and some of the lower powered Nikon Monarchs.  Thanks for the responses.  I am also looking at the 4-16x60 Mueller for another rifle that is a varmint rifle.  By the way, Greybeard, I see you list Bama on your profile, what part of Bama are you from?

I think one of those scopes you mention will serve you better than what you were looking at.
