What are your impressions of it? Would you recommed it as a first time dear hunting rifle? How is it different from the Handi-rifle?

What scope would you recommed for it for deer hunting in the North-east? Nothing fancy....just something simple and solid.

My Ultra is 25-06 and I have a synthetic Handi in 30-06. I really like the Ultra with the laminated stock. It is a little heavier than the standard Handi, basically because of the laminated stock. My 25-06 has a 26" barrel and the Ultra in 30-06 says it has 23". That should be the only difference. In my opinion you can't go wrong with the 30-06 in whatever rifle you choose. You will get a lot of opinions here, but it is hard to beat the 30-06. Can get loads for just about anything.

I have Simmons 44 Mag scopes on both of mine and have been pleased with them. Not expensive, but are clear and seem to hold up well. Best price I have found is at riflescopes.com and received both of mine in less than a week. Hope this helps.
