why?  i mean even if you're one of those single shot guys who thinks it makes it more challenging, what do you do when you butt-shoot a duck?  where's your follow-up shot to keep him from sailing off and dying in the weeds somewhere?  when i guide i only shoot at crippled ducks that may not fall in the pool.  I would estimate that without that ability you would lose 10-20% of ducks that are fatally hit.  Particularly with steel shot.

i just don't get the appeal here, can you explain it to me?  If the "one shot" thing is so great, get an 870 and just decide to only shoot once.  Then you've got a way to humanely dispatch birds you didn't kill, just in case.

I sometimes hunt with a NEF Parder just like yours.  I usually take it on the nasty weather days because I hate cleaning rain out of my automatics. :x I also take it when I hunt one of the city lakes where I know the duck numbers are very low.

I agree with the concern of cripples.  That is why I don't take any shots unless they are guarantee's, usually within 30 yards.

Two years ago I took my NEF on the last day I hunted in January.  I took it because I thought the lake would be completely frozen over because of the cold snap we had for a few weeks.  We found a cove and was able to break the ice to water.  I limited out on six ducks with seven shots.  The miss was my fault and was a clean miss.  My friend took his auto and didn't get as many as I did.

Man was he mad.  I thought it was funny but didn't rub it in too bad.

Good luck this fall.  Just get them close and remember to take good shots.

I use a 12 ga Topper Deluxe for canadas some times. With the one bird limit it helps lead me not into temptation.
PROUD REDNECK CONSERVATIVE

I'd much rather be remembered for being a great shot than having the most expensive gun

If you buttshoot one you just load another round. Any singleshot shooter worth his salt can load a second round in the blink of an eye. The guys I hunt with think I handicap myself using a double instead of a pump or auto for waterfowl but a decent double shooter I can usually load and fire a second barrage as fast as it takes others to drop their fourth round in and fire.
Just another worthless opinion!!
