Helping a trap shooting friend here.
Closed the gun to shoot and it went off.
Several things here.
Any contact with the trigger while closing the action sets it off.
A light trigger pull.
I know about the finger and trigger combo, no, no.
Upon inspection the hammer and sear edges are rounded.
There is a broken piece that must act as a second hammer block, a small finger that would engage the hammer in another spot.

Honing the hammer and sear notch has tightened the trigger pull but she can still go off if I purposely leave my finger on the trigger.
Again I know your not supposed to have the finger there but if you shoot doubles I think we a problem.

Now to quit rambling. He was told there are no parts for this gun.
Is this true?
I don't think it can be soldered or welded.
How old is this gun I am not familiar with Winchesters.
Thanks Wayne

This is a short recoil operated autoloader using a floating chamber. It was produced between 1954 and 1961.  About 200,000 werfe made by Winchester in several grades..  The little I've worked with these shotguns tells me they can be finiky and are less than robust in nature.  This action type is quite hard on the trigger/hammer interface.  some parts are available.  Sounds to me as if the wespon is quite dangerous...

Big thanks for the link. I ordered the part, only 9.95.
Yes, you definitely can't trust a gun that miss fires. I hope this part puts the gun back in complete working order. He only shoots trap with it but it's too important to have all things working.
Thanks again, hopefully I'll have this together for him before Tuesday shooting.
I'll bet he'll be surprised on how easy it was to fix it up after he was told there where no parts available.

Thanks guys. Got the part Monday, assembled it, works great. Shooting partner is quite happy, very easy fix.
Now he complains about a stiff trigger pull. I didn't take the time to polish the surfaces, he can do that.
Thanks again, have a happy shooter again.

Wayne,
I hope you ordered another part as I suspect that "trigger honing" contributed to the original problem. :)
Unless they are trying to shoot " 1 " Groups"  with it, leave it alone it will polish itself just by shooting it.
