Picked up an oldtimer 45 cal recently,wondering if anyone would have any info on this rifle.Here is what I know about it so far.
45 cal. 1 1/16" hex barrel.Tiny german silver front sight,tiniest notch rear.
Beautiful set triggers,short length of pull,crescent butt.Weighs 15lbs.
Rifling---7 lands,deep groove-----1in35 twist.
barrel was made by J.Wilt Dayton O
Gunsmith was Sweitzer.
Any info would be greatly appreciated,----Teech

First let me say welcome to GBO. What it sounds like, with the faster twist barrel and the heavier weight, is that this is a target rifle.

Would love to see a pic...How long is the barrel?? Is it tapered, or straight??? What type of lock? Back action??? Converted to percussion??
Is the back of the lock rounded or tapered??? Does it have a patchbox?? and what shape is it??? Really hard to give details without some good pics, or more info...Would love to see...Thanks...flintlock

PS...Is all of the furniture brass??? or iron??

The rifle now belongs to The Gunworks Oregon,there is a story that goes with that,next time.
35" straight Oct. barrel
Back action lock--Neff Wanton half cock had been filed off(no fly)
Original percussion---brass furniture--pewter forend
No patch box--not sure about the back of the lock.One screw thrugh the stock and one screw through half a hole on the same side of the lock at the bottom,it has quite a drop in the stock,although the lop was very short I could shoot it better than my other rifles.
When I bought it it had a bad crack right through the stock,from almost the wrist to the breech plug,had that repaired,all told it had cost me $110.00 I've asked Joe to send me a photo which I'll post.cheers Teech.
