I'm also curious if the new twenty inch barreled Pro-Varmint would qualify for hunter rifle?  It appears to be a short heavy, yet tapered fluted barrel, with a traditional stock, not to be confused with the SVT model.

A basic 82c and the HS, both work fine for a hunter gun. However, if you do a little investigating throughout the rimfire forums you will find that they seem to have reliabilty issues. I don't want to get flamed by the die hard Kimber fans, which always seems to happen. It is just that if you really want to use one, just be prepared and plan on doing a little work to make them function properly.

I personally have a Kimber HS, but I prefer to use my Anschutz 1712 fwt over it anyday.

Thanks for the feedback. As I already have a 1712 FWT I'm set but I was interested for my daughter. In AUS  we shoot IMSSU rules so I really need the weight of the Kimber.

My Kimber weighs in around 8 pounds, but the mounts that I use are not factory produced.  If you are thinking about buying a Kimber HS, I would ask to shoot it first.  Make sure there are no extraction problems and above all make sure it will group with something at 100m.  Jim

I have a Kimber HS.  I would advise AGAINST acquiring any Kimber rimfire rifle made in Yonkers.  They have a terrible problem with first-shot, cold-barrel flyers.  It's not just me.  With the exception of one person who has an SVT, everyone I have talked to has had similar problems.  Some folks have sent it back to the factory and they will fire-lap it for you.  I did it myself.  That seems to help, for a while.  One shooter said he had to fire-lap his HS about once a year.  Since our game does not allow sighter shots and since the targets are so small, don't hamstring yourself with this known problem.  It doesn't matter how pretty the rifle is or how well it balances, these dogs don't hunt!
