Ruger 44mag Deerslayer
« on: August 05, 2004, 05:21:37 AM »
I just inherited an old Deerslayer it is was probely made in the late 60's early 70's.  It has been used but in good shape.  It has been setting for about 10 years and never been touched.  I removed the barrel and action from the stock anf gave it a good cleaning. The only detraction I can find on it is a sling stud has been installed in the forearm rather than using the barrel band.  The wood seems very thin in the forearm and it is not the best place to mount a swivil stud.  After cleaning and reassembly I took it out and shot 10rds as fast as I could reload it ant it worked fine next time I will shoot for groups.  Can anyone give me an estimated value of this gun.  If it is valuable I dont want to use it and lessen tis value.

In central Wisconsin, the Ruger's go for about $400 - $450 w/out a scope and then go up from there. It is not that uncommon to see them at gun shows around here. A couple of years ago, ok about 10, you couldn't find one to save your soul. I got mine about 5 years ago for $400 and have used it quite a bit. It is easy to carry and a lot of fun to shoot.
With the magnum craze going on now, I am glad that it is finally respectable to shoot one now. It surely is a short and fat cartridge(lol). :-)
Expect it when you least expect it
