Well...I don't have a 243...but a-lot of others here do,and get pretty good groups with it.Have you tried the o-ring trick under the forearm stud...this allows the barrel to ride higher in the barrel channel of the forearm...doing a rather inexpensive free floating of it.Also...when shooting off a rest on the bench...are you resting it towards the hinge pin? This also helps a great deal....and with these Handi's you have to follow thru with the trigger when it breaks and hold it pulled...this also helps. I'm sure someone will help you out with the ammo and bullet selection here.....

Good Luck

I've used the Sierra 85 gr boatail hollow point match grade with excellant results. IMR 4350 works best for me,usually about .9 " at 100 and 1.25" at 200 yds. The boatails will usually shoot as small a group at 200 yds as they will at 100. My longest shot on a whitetail with this bullet was 293 steps.  Hope this helps.   Digger

Do you shoot other barrels off that receiver?

If so, are they more accurate?

If you do have other barrels and they are not accurate, there may be an issue with the receiver.

Do you rest the forend on the rest in front of or behind the forend screw?  Best if rested behind, close to the receiver.

Do you do this consistantly?

How heavy is your trigger pull?  Had a trigger job?

Have you tried having anyone else shoot it for groups?

I had a friend at the range last year with his new 7MM Mag and he was getting 3 1/2 to 4" groups.  Not happy with the rifle at all.  I tried and first group was 1 1/2".  He went from an '06 to the 7 Mag.  I think he was flinching.

In light of all this I have had BAD barrels from NEF.  Mine was a BC 45-70.  Got them to replace it free and new one was very accurate.

Hope this helps.

Ken,  The best place to position the rest is just ahead of the forend spacer hinge. The farther forward it is placed, the more pressure is placed on the barrel. Also, because of the transfer bar trigger system, follow through with the trigger pull is critical, it needs to be pulled all the way and not released at the break. A good bore polish with JB won't hurt, either.  Hth,  Tim

How many rounds have you put through it?  My son has  223 that I was ready to chuck out a window.  After about 300 or more rounds through it it settled down.  Now Win white box ammo gets 3/4" groups real regular.

Are you sure you do not have scope problem?  have you tried other scopes or made sure it is mounted tightly?

KEN
I didn't see anything mentioned about your scope.  Make sure it is not moving in the mount.  Have you used this scope on other rifles?  It might not be holding zero.  All are possibilities to examine before getting rid of the rifle/barrel.
