I, too, am a beginning reloader. Did my first 78 reloads last Saturdayand it was very satisfying--can't wait to shoot 'em.
There are two types of shell holders as was said above. The one for the press has a foot on it with a slotted groove that will slip into the area above the spring clip--it just slides in.
The other type without the foot is probably the one for your hand primer press if you have one. They are both somewhat caliber specific but one has the foot while the other does not.
A friend loaned me a Lee Anniversary Press to get me started. It worked fine but I can see why they are inexpensive. Just enough features to whet your appetite so you will want to buy a press with more features.
One other tip, mount the press over a hole where you can put a bag underneath to catch the falling primers that are being removed. Otherwise you will need to mount and dismount it because the primers go inside the press when they are pressed out.
