Odor Control & Muzzleoading
« on: August 10, 2004, 03:35:58 AM »
I plan to hunt black bear over bait agian this fall in northern MN.  I will be using a Knight .54 in-line with 120 grains of Pyrodex.  Is there anything I need to do to cover the the odor of my muzzleloader, or is a not an issue?  For myself, I am in Scent-Lok camo head to toe.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.  Good Luck to you all this Fall.

You can wipe the gun down with alcohol. That should remove the oil scent. I wouldn't worry much about the Pyrodex - the stuff smells like crap anyway.

oh it is an issue.  i laugh at all these guys that suit up with scentlok and then grab their oily, dirty gun and head out.  i agree, clean it with alcohol and then store it in a place not likely to have scent put on it.  treat the gun as you would your scentlok suit.  if you are running your own bait you can leave a few pyrodex pellots at your bait so they get used to it.  i wouldnt leave very much though.  we use this method for bug dope so they get used to it and they do get used to it.
