I'm just curious about your opinions fellas. Be honest...I don't have a Ruger or Browning maffia...I promise

i have a Ruger 22/45 that is one sweet shooting machine.  i wouldnt hesitate to get a MkII if i found a deal.  i've never really cared for the way the Brownings feel in my hands...

That is what is important.   Handle them both and get to one that feels right.

I owned both at the same time. The MK-II is a Blue 5 1/2" Government Model. The Browning was the original with a 5 or 5 1/2" barrel (I don't remember right now). It had the top rib for a scope mount and the hooded front and rear target sights and the full walnut target grips. I traded it even for a 4" S&W Model 686 no dash.

I felt the Ruger was a robust and no nosense designed gun and that the Browning was more fragile. I did not like to pay special attention to making sure I did not loose the little leaf spring under the right grip pannel every time I removed the grips for cleaning. I also felt Icould not treat the Browning as roughly in the woods and at the range than I could the Ruger. For me the Ruger was also faster to reload than the Browning.

The only complaint I have with the Ruger is the creepy and mushy trigger. It was just as accurate (maybe even more acurate)  than the Browning with all brands of ammo tested.  I would like to pick up an external adjustable trigger and have been watching the boards to find one sale. Please contact me if anyone has a trigger  kit for sale or trade.

Thanks - J.Solo

I own two MkII's and shoot them regularly.  One is tricked-out for serious target work...the other is a stocker for tin can rolling.  I'm very happy with both of them.  They're also the guns I've bought my kids to get them started in the sport.

Always liked the heft and the iron in the Rugers...the Buckmarks just don't feel as substantial in my hand.  HOWEVER, the next .22 pistol I will buy will be a Browning...just haven't decided which one to buy and how I will justify the expense to the boss.   I keep telling her "this is the last one I will ever need"..done that three or four times this year already!  :)

My opinion of Ruger products has consistently been "it's a good product, but I can do better with something else." In this context the something else is a Browning buckmark. It's just a better gun.  There are quite a few competitive shooters who have sold their S&W 41s and replaced them with Buckmarks and are happy with the decision.

:cb2: I had a Ruger Mk. II that was such a pain in the . . .  ah, posterior, that I traded it for a SP101 and gave up on getting another .22 automatic. Think I'll just stick with good ol' dependable wheelguns from here on out.

Asking me to choose between my Mark II and my Buck Mark is like asking me to choose between my daughter and my son.  They are both equally cherished.
