Too bad all round.  I almost got suckered into that one myself.  Guys like that give the ATF fuel to try to show how bad gun dealers are.

Next we'll find out he was supplying arms to terrorists.  Seriously, though it does give anti's fuel for their fires when guys like that are in business.

Glad the ATF got onto him before he got a lot of peoples money.  imagine if one of our own hadn't gone to visit him, we might have had a whole different opinion of his shop.

I hate to ask dumb questions, but is this the same guy that promised to do all kinds of neat stuff to your Handi for next to nothing on the old H&R forum ( I have been away from things for awhile)?

I remember two:
There was Marty, who would buy new guns wholesale, part them out and sell us the barrels (usually rechambered, like .17hmr to .17 Rem). It seems the BATFE caught him in a license violation and started grabbing guns (probably some belonging to customers) and he went into hiding.

Then there was the David White impersonator, who at one time offered to rechamber a gun for free to prove himself. (what was his name, deersniper007 or something?)

Later, David White himself came on the H&R forum, and everybody was leery of him, because they thought the imposter was him. He's got his own forum on Mike Bellm's web site.

Mitch.
edit: Judging by the asterisks, I'd say that the surname of one of the better known T/C customizers is a dirty word here.

Could there have been a third. It seems that this guy could supply you actions and/or barrels a lot cheaper than H&R, and would re-chamber your rifle to just about any thing you wanted. I don't remember anything about the .17's. He had a great web site with pic's of his "work". All was great until some one on the forum went to his shop and did not see all the equipment that he claimed to have and then things got a little ugly on the forum with people asking all kinds of questions and making allegations about this guys authenticity.
It makes you want to just deal with major manufactures which is to bad for the poor guy that is doing an honest job and trying to get started.
I bet these guys are either related to or live near Monte and his 275 pound wife and shoot "squil" with their 30/06  :-) .

Geeeeeeezzzzzzz......... I really feel bad.  I was the person that posted a link to Marts site on the old H&R site.  As I remember, there was a lot of talk about this guy on there.  Some folks even went as far as to travel some distance to check him out.  Sorry for all that I may have done.  I didn't know anything about him.  I just thought he was offering some stuff that nobody was for our NEfs.  Hope everything works out.  I guess Jeff was right in warning everybody to steer clear of this guy.

WDO:

Nothing for you to feel bad about Bro...you didn't know this guy and just passed along  a heads up for someone saying they could do a-lot of things for our Handi's at a good price...heck...I even drove down there to check him out and reported back his lack of equipment and what his excuses where..that's when the guy starts his back peddeling and all and wouldn't respond to the questions asked to him.......doesn't take a rocket sceintist to figure out when someone is B.S'ing and it was all there in the original thread in black and white for everyone to see,on the old forum...and on a  thread on this forum as well...

Whitedogone- I would not worry about it, you were just offering info on what seemed like some good stuff at a good price, how could you tell the guy was a flake. If no body posted info about good deals, there would a lot less to talk about.

Mitch is right, there were three, Marty, deersniper007 and David W. I wondered back then if deersniper007 and either of the other 2 were one and the same. I would also be somewhat leary about what David W. says he can do. Claims he chambers a 30 something or the other that is actually a shortened 308 case and claims he is getting 3000 fps from 150 grain bullets in 16" barrels      The only way i know to do that from the case he describes is to run pressures in the 70,000+ range. Not I says this 'ol white boy.......

WDO don't fret a bit. There were a lot of whacky things put forward on that site, the shenannigans involving these three are but the broth of the stew. I hate it that folks are missing money and possibly firearms, it just goes to show that if there is a way to misuse or abuse anything (the web in this instance), there are people who will rise to the occasion. Proof once again of that Russian proverb, "Trust, but Verify".

I did some looking this AM and couldn't find that claim. I did see that he's working with an improved 308/444/40deg with nearly 30/06 case volume that he calls the 308 Alpo, but I couldn't find any full pressure velocity claims for it. I think he said his forming loads were hitting 2800fps with 155gr.

(edit)
I just found the following velocity claim made by David for the 308 White Express, which is based on the 9.3x74R.

"My 308 WHITE EXPRESS round from 26" barrels, has produced the following velocities from a couple of diffrent barrels...

125 gr. Ballistis Tip - 3,480 fps.

150 gr. Sierra B.T.-S.P. - 3,311 fps.

165 gr. Sierra B.T.-H.P. Game King - 3,262 fps.

180 gr. SPEER Grand Slam - 3,018 fps."

(seems reasonable for a larger than 30/06 case and 26" barrel, but this chamber would seem pointless in a 16")

Davids chambering of a Triad of cartridges he chambers for is based on the 444 case...you use a 308 die to neck sizeand a 444 die when full lenght sizing...I only read of 1 person doing this on the old forum and it didn't work out, accuracy wise or velocity wise...he then put the gun up for sale...I believe that persons handle was Patrick...he didn't have David do the work though...he works off a site owned run by a guy who's first name Mike B***** and this guy put's out a news letter for T-C work...there was also talk from someone about barrel stubbing...I can't remember if this was the same person or not...this one seemed rather odd and supposedly costed 2 to3 times as much as the Handi's  original price...this one died on the vine rather quickly.....

On the subject of David White, i haven't had a chance to go and meet him. Although i'm going to real soon. His place is only about 15 minutes from here. But, i have heard nothing but good things about him. I can't wait to go meet him and have him do some work for me. I just don't want someone to get a bad rap because a fellow gunsmith got over on some folks. That's All.
