Misfires- CCI 200
« on: August 11, 2004, 06:21:18 AM »
I have now had mis fires in two different guns with the CCI 200 primers.

One in a 7-08 ackley improved bolt action and the other in a T/C Encore .280.

Primers are showing signs of being hit but are not firing.

Other ammo works fine in the 7-08, have not yet tried anything else in the .280.

I have shot CCI 250 primers in my 7 Mag for years and years with never a misfire.

Is this a case of a bad box of primers?

Any suggestions.

Thanks,

Smoky

Must be some bad primers. That's very unusual, though. I did have a box of Winchester primers that had three misfires out of 500. Never had any before or since.

I have never had a CCI primer fail to fire, or Winchester or Remington.

The only failures I have ever had was with a box of Federal .44 Special factory loads...three out of 50!

I have seen CCI missfire.
They are made harder then the other brands and require a strong hit.
Federal primers are the softest and I have never seen one missfire.

Never had a CCI or any other brand fail to fire.....its possible that they are bad. Are they seated completely.....if not it is possible they won't fire.

I have never had a misfire, attrubutable to the primer itself, on my reloads.

I did have some misfires once when I got overly enthusiastic about uniforming primer pockets. These cases, I applied too much pressure when uniforming the pockets and some were a little too deep. The primers seated a few thousandths too deep and resulted in the misfires.

20 + years ago got a bunch of CCI primers for my 357, a lot of them would not fit in the primer pocket. CCI said they had  had a problem with their mach. and wound up with a large batch of primers that were just a bit oversized. They had me return the primers to my local gun shop where I had gotten them and they replaced the whole bunch.
I heard at one time that the primers that PMC was using were real hard.
