Just purchased a Remington 660 in 6mm Remington, anybody have any pet loads for Varmints, looking for a place to start. Also does anyone load a factory round for this with a 60-75 grain bullet??

Velocity: 3.128 FPS @ 15' from muzzle

200 yards MAN that some fine shooting and gun!!!! Thanks for the information. I have never reloaded rifle shell's(1000's of shot-shells) but going to give a try.

I own a Model 700 varmint 6mm Remington and the Sierra 85 gr. hpbt is very accurate in that rifle using IMR 4350 powder and either Federal 210 Match or CCI bench rest primers.

And they say that the 6mm Remington isn't popular because it doesn't shoot as well as a 243?

The reason the 6mm never gained a great following is partially due to the fact it originally came out designated as a 244 Rem and was designed as a varmint rifle. As such it has a fast twist more conducive to light bullets. Hunters trying to use 100 gr bullets for deer were having accuracy problems that didn't exist with the 243. Buy the time Remington "fixed" the problem and renamed it 6mm rem, the 243 had gained too strong a foothold. No one considered the extra 100 FPS of the 6mm enough of a gain to switch over. Now had that same situation happened 5 or 10 years ago I have no doubt shooters would have jumped all over it for that extra 100 FPS. My one and only 6mm was a Rem model 788. That economy model 6mm shot better than my current 110 Savage which is no slouch.

I have and use a remington 788 in 6MM. People look at the targets it punches and just wonder out loud "how does he do it."

Hey,

I have a Rem. 700 action with a Hart S.S. Fluted barrel combo. The bullet that works the best for me is the Sierra 60gr. HP sitting on top of 43.5 grains of Varget. CCI B.R. primer.

My barrel was formerly a 6BR, My gunsmith had on one of his rifles. He sold and rechambered the barrel for me, so it's now a 6mm Rem. The twist in the barrel will decide on which bullet it likes best. My gunsmith gave me a box of his own custom match bullets in 68 gr. Well, they didn't shoot all that well, when I switched to the Sierra 60's, 4 shots in the same hole at 100 yards.

Try a variety of bullets to find which one shoots the best, just bought a box of 58 gr. V-Maxes, can't wait to try them out
