I have a blued contender frame that has served me well for about 13 to 15 years.
Today I went to the range and found I have a problem.
the frame will reset the trigger fine but when I go and cock the hammer it will make a click sound and not stay in the locked position. win this happens I can lower the hammer back in the fired position, when I pull the trigger I still hear the shear click. If I re-cock it several times I will get lucky and it will stay ready to fire(1 out of 10 times maybe)

anyone have a clue what happened? It will be going back to T/C very soon to be taken care of and a safety check- up

Does your frame have the trigger adjustment for trigger pull directly above the trigger? I have adjusted mine so light that when I cock the hammer it won't hold in the cocked position. I then adjust it to where the trigger pull is much heavier and start lightening it again. Maybe yours has lightened the trigger pull itself through use--Don't know if that is even possible, but the symptoms are the same that I had with a self-induced overly light trigger pull. Be careful--I sure AIN'T a gunsmith and safety first is the best bet. Good-luck...BCB

yup mine does have the adjustable trigger guard.
that was the first thing I checked it still does it with the screw backed all the way out. it is like hammer is slipping and the shear is still engaged

The TECH at T/C told me this is normal but it is the first I have heard of it

Do you have the new style frame or the old style frame?
If the new style, your butterfly may be loose. Take off the barrel. Look straight down past the firing pins. See the slotted screw holding the butterfly in place? is it tight? Sometimes closing the barrel will cause the hammer to release, even though the trigger is not pulled. You don't realize it as the hammer is not in cocked position.

I am at work, and don't have a frame handy. If I had the trigger assy off, I would look underneath to see if anything else may be loose.

Just something that may help.

just a guess, it sounds like the hammer sear has a problem, if you can hear the striker release and it resets, the trigger it's self is ok. I'd bet on the sear spring or the safety or it's spring as the problem. me thinks it be best to go back to TC good luck

I got to thinking about this while taking a shower, have you tried pulling the trigger group and cleaning the inside of the frame with a good cleaner, and if you have axcess to an air supply blow it out and do it again. get it good and dry and give it a good oiling. now don't get me wrong, I'm not saying you don't clean your weapons, I just saying that's what I'd do if it was mine. good day

Paladin,

I take the grip off the frame then I then I use break clean with the tube to reach deep inside the frame. then I use a computer duster (can of air) to blow everything out once everything is good and dry I use a very light coat of rim oil

It will be going back to T/C very soon for them to give it a good going over. I just hope they have it back before start of squirrel season

well the frame went off to T/C this morning Via FED EX.
The total was only $4.83 and it went ground insured for $300.00.

I only sent the frame. no grips or barrels nothing to ID it as a handgun. it was sent as "gun parts". I even took the stock to show it was a rifle if the challenged me. they took it with out any questions

I am kind of hoping that they can not fix the frame and replace it with a G-2 with he same serail number. This would be the only way I can get one in MD

I got a post card from T/C letting me know they got the frame and a job number. it took about a week for them to get it and send out the card, now I hope they can get the frame back to me as fast :cry:

They had my frame for less than a week, for a hammer replacement. I think it came about 2 days after the card came in the mail. This was about a year ago and I was very surprised about the quick turnaround. You'll probably get it back by UPS, next day air.

got my frame back today. everything is working great now.

...is very good. I returned a frame because of a 'stuck' firing pin, and they replaced the whole assembly, assorted springs, etc. Fast. And free! Beat that.

no, they didn't say all that was on the slip was some missing parts. I do not know what parts or how they became missing. the ticket didn't have a persons name on it. it just said gun line so It will be impossible to find out who did the work.

I just send off my S.S. frame and 2 barrels off this afternoon.
one of the barrels will not unlock from the frame even after I replaced the locking lugs and the other barrel will not go all the way down in the frame to lock.

The total shipping from FEDEX was $7.01 with $700.00 insurance
