I get my 1903A3 out from time to time but only to shoot around with it, great gun but I prefer to try to keep as many scratches off of it as possible...shoots like a dream using 165gr. PSP.

I have always wanted an '03A3. If I did have one, it would get shot (gently) on occasion. I'll bet you really enjoy yours. Is it all original, unmodified? If so, you have a real treasure!

All original, just the way it came off the line(wouldn't want it any other way), and yes, I enjoy shooting it very much. As you say "gently" on occasion. :grin:

You should see me try to get it out of the safe, I baby it so much (in fear of bumping the metal safe) you would think it was nitro glycerin

I bid on a 1903A4 at an auction once, it even had the old 2.2x scope and was FOR SURE an A4 because it DIDN'T have SIGHTS on it!!!! I drooled when I stopped bidding at $700.00 and watched it sell for over $1400. I don't know how much they are actually worth but the guy that got it sure didn't mind giving 14 hundreds for it, he was smiling a lot afterwards too.

I hope you are able to aquire one in the future, it is truly a piece of American History, and if you are like me a reminder of how we,as Americans, can come together for a greater good when necessary.

Cool! An unaltered original 03A3 is high on my personal priority list. Perhaps one of these days.... :wink:

I purchased one last year and gave it to my father-in-law for Christmas.

It had however been sporterized by replacing the original stock and adding a scope with mounts. Otherwise,... the receiver, barrel and the rest were in great shape. Shoots damn nice too. He wanted to go hunting with our group last year and didn't have a rifle ( well he did, but he "Loaned it to his oldest son" and it has yet to return where it belongs for the past 10 years or so)

Christmas came EARLY that year,... along with a 50 round box of matched handloads for it as well. Dad was a pretty happy camper and loves his new rifle. :grin:

No 0 3 here :cry: but I got a Remington 1917 that shoots 4" groups at 100 yards with iron sights and me standing on my hind legs with no rest :shock: That's real good for me :wink: --Willy

I have a rem 03 not A3.love the rifle and just punch paper from time to time.
worked up a load using the 173 gr g.i. match bullets.bifocals and old eyes it can still print 2 inch groups at 150 yards.the best part it's all orginal.

I have an 03-A3 that I sporterized about 30 years ago with a Fajen stock. I had a gunsmith drill and tap it for a one-piece Redfield mount and install a low-swing safety and I installed a 4x Leupold. It has the original 2-groove barrel dated September, 1943. The barrel has a rather long throat but seems to shoot OK if I seat the bullets out. Mostly I use GI cases, IMR 4350 powder, and Hornady's 190 boat tail spire point.

The two what most call Springfields are actually Remingtons. One a '03 The other a 03A3.
