Premier Core Lokt or Express Core Lokt?
« on: August 13, 2004, 06:25:11 AM »
I'm sure 90% of you have used Remington's Express line of ammunition. But has anybody used the Premier line? I'm thinking more like the Premier Core-Lokt Ultra? I'm looking to buy some for deer season and I killed my buck last year with goold plain ol' Express Core Lokt's. But...I wanna be safe. Let your voice be heard. Thanx.

The only Remington Premiums I have used so far is the 7mag 150gr Accutips, My Ruger M77 shoots em great,3 shots were 1/2 at 100 from a bench, I don't shoot from a bench much because 'there aint no bench in the field/woods" I shot the rest of the box in different positions and shot a few through brush....I wasnt impressed with the results through the brush but was satisfied enough with the other results that I decided to buy 5 more boxes for the ammo safe. They shot about 2 inches high and 1 inch to the right compared the standard CORE-LOKTs, but as everyone knows, every gun is different.

I just bought a box of 140gr. CORE-LOKT ULTRA 7mm Rem Mag on clearance for $19.00...I will try them tomorrow and see how they work out...I checked each shell over and they are a little more precise compared to the regular CORE-LOKTs but still not as precise as Federal Premium Ammunition.

I ran a box of accutips through my 222,

Their group size was larger than the express with the power-lokt hollow point bullet in it.

The rifle really likes those power-lokt express loads though.... .6 to .75 inch groups at 100 yds as long as the monkey pulling the trigger doesn't screw up. :D

I am very impressed with the 140gr. CORE-LOKT ULTRA, at least out of my Ruger M77 7mm Remington Magnum....I didn't sit my bench up because it was drizzling rain, but I fired off 3 shots free handed with my sling for support and got about 7/8" group at 100 yards and had the exact same point of impact as regular 150gr. Express CORE-LOKTs.
I will be buying more!!!

This makes three factory loads that have the exact same point of impact out of my Ruger M77, only the size of the groups change. 150gr. PSP Express CORE-LOKT(Free Handed 1.25"-1.5"@100yrds.), 150gr. Nosler Solid Base Federal Premium(Free Handed 1"@100yrds.), and the 140gr. PSP CORE-LOKT ULTRA(Free Handed 7/8"@100yrds.)
I plan on shooting the rest of the box later in the week, I am anxious to see if the grouping is consistent and also how tight the groups are from my bench.

I will never knock the old CORE-LOKTs but they just don't have real consistent accuracy compared to other factory loads and I think Remington fixed that problem(maybe)with the new CORE-LOKT ULTRA. I just wish we didn't have to pay more for it.

Happy Shooting.  :D

Well, maybe in the near future when they see their line go up in sales, maybe they'll be nice and lower prices. I dunno. But a 7/8" group. WOW. Now that's what ya call a TACK DRIVER

I think I could drive a tack from my bench...remember, that 7/8" group was free-handed with only a sling wrapped around my arm for leverage.
I think it was one of the best free-handed 100 yard groups I ever fired using a factory load...
I went back to Wal-Mart to buy the rest of the 7mag CORE-LOKT ULTRA but all they had was one box left.
I can't wait till the weather clears up. I am really anticipating firing 3&5 shot groups from my bench. And am also looking forward to testing them at 300&400 yards too.

I took it you bought that one box, right? And even if you couldn't necessarily drive a tack freehand, you could probably get a bullet right through a deer's heart w/ that gun and load.

Oh Yeah, I bought that one box they had left...I called Bass Pro in Nashville and they said they had gobs of em in stock, but the guy told me they was $29.99  +10% sales tax  not mention the horrible drive down there...I have been all over this country and I think Nashville holds the rudest, non-driving, bunch of idiots I have ever seen.

I called Wal-Mart after that and the guy told me he could order them for $23.96 a box...I know what I will be doing...

I have not experimented enough with the shells, but I think I could sink one into the kill zone out to 250yrds. free-handed(may need to crouch for that distance) and probably 500yrds. braced on the side of a tree(etc.)...I will keep you posted on this subject as I learn more myself. As for the Gun :agree: I will never doubt it...I am so comfortable with my Ruger M77 7mag that is more like an extension of myself...

NO.
I have a lot of Remingtons but my honest answer is NO...I would take my Ruger M77 over a Remington 700 any day. Sorry people, I love my Remingtons too...

OK then...hmm...now I might be tempted to buy a Ruger. If a die-hard Remington fan will go for a Ruger....mebe I can too. I hunted with a gentleman who did have a Ruger and it seemed to be a nice gun. But I like to stay loyal. Maybe I should try adultry on Remington  :)

Yea, that's good. But it's not anywhere near far from the truth. Even though Sako and Tikka look nice, I try to be USA all the way!

No. The CORE-LOKT ULTRA is a newly developed bonded bullet. It was Researched and Developed at Remington's R&D Factory in my home state of Kentucky, not too far from some of my Kin Folk.

I could try to write all about the CORE-LOKT ULTRA Bonded Bullet but I think it would be best if you just visited Remington's web site...there is also a pretty good video on the CORE-LOKT ULTRA Bonded Bullet if you either have a Cable/DSL ISP or a lot of patience for Dial-up...here is the link.
http://www.remington.com/ammo/centerfire/premier_coreloktultra.htm

and here is even some more detailed info on the CORE-LOKT ULTRA Bonded, 4 pages of it

Got another question for ya'll. For those who have shot Express and decided to move to the Premier Core Lokts....was there much of a difference in your groups (I mean only negative difference...did you have to adjust by beheamoth amounts). Input would be appreciated. Thanx :D
