Ventilated Ribs
« on: August 16, 2004, 03:40:50 AM »
Does anyone know where I can get a Ventilated Rib put on a Winchester M50 Semi Auto? I picked up a 12 Gauge full choke for a good price that was in need of some TLC. The Gun patterns well and functions without a hitch, but like I said it needs Cosmetic attention badly.
I don't want one of the stick on Junk ribs that you put on with "Carpet tape", but one similar to the old Simmons ribs would do nicely.
Any help would be appreciated.
If you know you can post it here or PM me with the information Thanks

Simmons runs a shop in Olathe, Kansas.  They still do the vast majority of after-market ribs on Winchesters.  I've had my M12s worked on there and they do quality work.

Even most of the ribs put on by individual smiths are made by Simons.  I believe most ribs are glued inplace(after market only of course).  No one I know still solders on barrel ribs.. Simons perhaps but other than that it's a rare shop that does it..

simmons does... just had one redone 3 months ago... i believe they said it was "silver soldering" but i'm not sure what that is.  They said it's expensive to work with (and they charged a lot for it).

Usually silver soldering a rib also means a reblue as the heat is so high the blue is sure to be damaged..  I figured Simmons would still solder one down.  There are of course several smiths dealing with double guns that still solder ribs and barrels but as a rule most folk don't want to invest that much in a hunting weapon...  thanks for the info...
