Need help choosing between pistols
« on: August 16, 2004, 06:25:15 PM »
I was at my local gun dealer today and found two guns that I liked a lot. The first one I picked up was a newly traded in Sig P229 which looked like it was in pretty dang good shape. It almost looked new to me, and he was asking 369 which seems cheap. The other one I looked at was a Springfield XD-40, which I like a lot. This one is new and he wants 430 for it. My first handgun was a Ruger P95-DC which I like, but I want something with a little more bang for the buck, so I've been looking at the .40's pretty hard. I know Sig's are awesome as hell, but what about a used one? Thanks for any info

LoCAF25, Get the one that feels the best to you. If you like the Ruger P95-DC, you can always get a Ruger P94-DC. Its just like your P95-DC but in 40 S&W. Ruger makes an outstanding pistol, they may not cost as much as other pistols out there but there quality is great.
I don't have any experience with the Sig's or Springfield's XD-40.
I personally prefer Glock's myself, they fit me like a glove. I shoot them really well. There are about 18,000 police agencies in this country from the federal, state, county and local levels, around 65% of them use Glock's, there's a reason for that, if they work for them, I guess they'll work for me too!

First of all Glocks SUCK! You can't go wrong with the SIG but all in all I prefer the XD-40.

Glocks are made out of plastic, and are ugly as sin, in that regard yes the suck, but they do work and shoot great. I have had no trouble with my 21 ever. Back to the subject.
I dont know much about Sig, but I havent ever heard anything bad about them. I do know a little bout the XD40 though and can say that its a fine pistol, dependable and accurate, well worth the money.
I dont think you could go wrong with either of these, I would pick the one that fits your hand best and feels most comfortable.

They do? Then why do so many police agencies use them?

Thanks everybody, but the Sig spent a total of 24 hours on the shelf, before somebody bought it. I went back this morning to hold them both again, and see which one I liked best, and the Sig was gone. Damn the luck

I myself would have preferred the Sig, they are durable and a pleasure to shoot. Now on the other hand if I had my choice to any pistol it would be the HK. Major reason behind the HK is the lifetime warrenty, and they are one sweet shooter.

SIGs are very finely made guns, hold their value well, and have a lot of innovative design features that I personally like. My recommendation would be the SIG.  The key to buying a used one is being assured that it is in good condition. If I could be so assured, I would have no other reservations about buying one.

Check out the new Ruger autoloaders w/ slimmer lines & less clunky top heavy feel.  The XD feels great in my hand-that SIG every one is crowing about is over-rated & over priced but damn durable & will hold value well.  Ever try to feild strip a SIG now try that XD-HUGE difference.  The XD is a great pistol that will serve you well-new 45 version soon out too!
