How to clean a lens???????

How and what does everyone use to clean their lens on their scopes and binos?  I have corn dust on my lens.  The covers flipped open when I was throwing out corn.

I have been told to be very careful about that because of the lens coatings.  People say the best thing to do is just blow off what you can, then use water and a soft cloth.  If that doesn't work, then I use Zeiss cleaner, but it doesn't seem to work well with the Elite Rainguard coating!

By the way, my scope is a Leupold mk4 if it matters.

When I get dust all over my lens I use short bursts of air duster(the stuff you use on computers) and then use the pads made by Baush and Lomb that are available at Wal-Mart in the pharmacy section(they are like alcohol prep pads, but made for optics)(they come in a purple box)

Make sure ALL dust is off before using the pad or you WILL scratch the lens.

you got so good advice there.i work in the optical field and have seen more lenses ruined by bad cleaning than any thing you must get rid of the grit first!!! blow it off, flush it off or carfuly brush it off real soft brush then use a good cleaner and lens tissues (not kleenex) to finish.
i have used the Leaupold lens pen and it works ok and is easer to cary in the field but if i got a lot of dust or mud on my lens i would flush the lens with clean water first.
good shooting 8)
