weaver sidemounts for mausers & mosins

I just ordered two weaver scope side mounts for both my 98 mauser and my mosin 44 sporter both for hunting/plinkin. I found the numbers for one that fits the mosin on another site(guy answered me) plus i seen the mauser side mount in numrich gun parts catalog. I like the side mount look better. I found another mosin side mount at smithenterprises.com  looks great too I may try this one on mosin 91/30 too I can use modern scopes/optics. I have to get my old projects done soon I want to move on to others(new ones).                                   BigBill

I remember seeing weaver side mounts in their catalogs of years gone by, but didn' know they still made them.  Would be very curious to know  how they turn out.   Good luck with yours, BigBill.

The smithenterprise.com mosin scope base has to be the best but it costs $100 and is made exactly like i would design/make one. But the weaver side mount that fits the mosin is #1   48401 and costs $14.95,  the mauser  side mount #5  48405 costs $18.95 if i remember correctly. I hope i have all the info correctly its hard to tell if its complete or not there isn't too much information but they say its right.  In a few days we will know when it gets here. I'm also looking at "see thru" rings they are 1" higher it could save headaches from making a bolt clear a low scope where just a bent bolt will work too. So much to look at that could save $$$ and hassle too. I'll keep everyone posted.           BigBill

How do you like the Moisins anyway?  I"ve seen them, but never have fired one. Always seemed like ammo would be very hard to find. Are they really worth messing with?

Your right years ago the 7.62X54 was expensive and is more available today cheaper too. I paid $79 for 880 rounds(case) 7.62X54 FMJ on clearance. There is Russian Wolf ammo available in FMJ or SP for $6 a box much more affordable now. Yes theyare worth messing with the market is flooded right now so its a buyers market. The mosins come in many different models the most popular is the M27 and M39 Finnish Mosins the Finns changed the barrels, sights and stocks on the russian captured guns. They made them more accurate and better handling guns. The russian M91/30,  M59, M44, and M38 are nice ones too. There is quite a bit of history on these fine guns and now is the time to buy before the supply gets low you can get a better quality gun cheaper now too. Do a search on "Rifles of the White Death" the story will come up about 4,000 russsians against 32 finns, and get the movie "Enemy at the Gates" tells the story about russian snipers. The mosins do have their place in history and you can own and shoot one cheap $40 to $100. There are M91/30 Russian/Finnish captures at Samco right now for $79 they have all the markings to prove their history they clean up nice too.  The affordable price on M44's right now make great hunting rifles too the shorter gun makes a perfect tree stand gun.                         BigBill

Just bought 500 rd. of new unloaded 7.62x54 brass from Graf&Sons for $72.00 plus tax.  Our shooting club has a dealer account with them, so they give us a discount on the supplies that we buy.
Brass was made by a Europen manufacturer.
Makes shooting a Mosin even better.

Stuffy, I was just looking today at Graf's for some 7.62x54 brass, but only thing I found was Lapua at $45/C!  That's a heck of a deal!  I want at least a couple of hundred rounds of boxer primed brass, and Hornady is supposed to have some at less than $20/C, but I read that wouldn't be available until March (approximately, of course).

What brand is your brass?  The Norma stuff was nearly twice the price of the Lapua brass!

Just received my brass today, a friend went down this weekend and picked it up for me.  I ordered 500 rd. and they only had 100 rd. on hand.  The kicker was that the price has gone up from just last week when I ordered it.  It's now $27.99 per 100 rd.  As for the maker, I can hardly read the stamping, but it looks like nny is stamped on it, nothing else but 7.62x54.

Was just on the Graf site, if you type in 7.62x54 in their seach box, it will come up with several different items to veiw, including their brass.

Those 7.62 x 54 cartridge cases withe the nny heastamp are probably Israeli military production.
