According to Gary Reeder on his web site "ask reeder" section (www.reedercustomguns.com ) the S&W 500 Magnum is been in conjucnction with Dan Wesson too.  That is wild news

Gary also has some of the ammunition.  I've ordered one of the guns.  There are to be formally announced Feb. 8th, I think.  Odd thing is that it uses a 0.500 diameter bullet.

Ballisti-Cast is making gang moulds.  Gary seems to think that CH is making the dies.  CorBon is making the ammunition.

Smith, incidentally, is also making parts for not only Dan Wesson but also Kimber.  The S&W 1911 is a Dan Wesson clone.

That odd bullet size is what make the S&W magnum "different".  Mostly marketing I think.  Then it is not the 500 Linebaugh or Linebaugh Max.  Thanks for the info about the 1911.  New info to me.

Mr Guest, FYI the .500 Linebaugh was a hotly contested caliber because of BATFE intervention that inckuded the early IMI Desert Eagle.
Mr Linebaugh simply had barrels made with taller lands so the "official" .5 range rod would just clear but it still uses .512 cast slugs.
It just shows the intelligence of the JBT crowd, snicker.

:gun4: FYI  Just before Elgin died in 1988 there were two guns on the table with Wesson Arms,  the 414SM  (41 Supermag) and the 505 Supermag.  The cases mesured 1.610.  Pro-to-type cases were a 348 case blown out to 1/2 inch and cut back to 1.610.  As it were Wesson produced 25 414SM's very short run before they went belly-up in 1994. The 50 Supermag got put on hold.  As a side note the 610 Supermag was  would have been produced overseas at some point.  Alot of people copied Elgin's ideas, I'm happy S&W came out in production with the 500.  I understand the 500 case is shorter then the Supermag case.

there's nothing odd about a .5 bullet unless of course you're not familiar with the .50ae?

John Linebaughs .500 is formed from the .348 Win. and trimmed to 1.4 for the normal Linebaugh cartridge now in production by several makers.
the Linebaugh Longs are trimmed to 1.6, I believe a couple makers are producing brass for the Long Linebaugh now.
The S&W .500 can't be formed from any cartidge, Hornady, Corbon and Buffalo Bore have loaded ammo and I believe Starline has brass.
I believe that the case length for the .500 S&W is indeed 1.610
No offence meant here Mr Gates but the .348 has been a very popular base for wildcatting in calibers from .22 to .510 because of it's capacity.
My wildcat books are full of calibers massaged by masters like Barnes, Ackley, Jurras and naturally Mr Gates!

maybe, IM just not reading this correctly,
but ...my questionis, is there going to be a cylinder and barrel made to adapt a 445 dan wesson to a 500 dan wesson super mag??? and is there a posibility of rechambering a 445 supermag cylinder to a 44 cal wildcat based on a larger case like the 45/70 or 348 win shortened and necked down necked down to 44 caliber or 500 S&W necked down to 44 caliber
