Need instructions for a PW 800B
« on: August 18, 2004, 05:34:39 PM »
Greetings to all my fellow shooters.

I picked up a used Ponsness Warren, Sizomatic, 800B Shotshell reloader, without the instructions.  Does anyone have a set of instructions they can e-mail me?

I paid $100.00 Canadian for the press.  Is that a good price?

The press did not come with any shot/powder bushings.  Are the bushings still available?

Thank you in advance for any assistance yoiu may offer.

Kindest regards,

Try the P-W factory.  Their website is:

Precision Reloading has bushings:

NO. NO. NO.

Those are HORRIBLE pieces of trash. I am so sorry you got stuck with it. But being the nice guy I am if you'll ship that old junk loader to me I'll refund your money and just to show you how nice I am will even pay the shipping.

Ah to have such a problem as needing to learn to use a PW. What a nice problem to have.

You can use PW, Hornady or Pasific bushing for powder or shot with any of the PW presses. I bought parts and built an 800 and a 900 PW and I`m here to tell you you have the best press in their line for holding up. You really don`t need a manual, heck I built them with a manual. Get the powder and shot bushings you need for the load you want and put them in the press. Just remove the 4 screws that hold on the shot and powder tubes and incert bushings. P recomand that you set the press to drop powder only and cycle it catching the powder in the pan of your powder scales to make sure that the powder drop in correct. This should be done every time you get a different lot of powder. Solo-1000 is the only powder that I`ve found that has had enought vairation to get you in trouble, but I found 1 lot of that powder that might have blown up a gun if you used the bushing the book called for. If you powder drop is correct, fill the press with shot and primers. As the first case works it way to a station turn on that staion. ie. powder drop, wad steating, or shot drop. When your finishing turn them off as they last case gets past them.
I sold the 800B I built and kept the 900. The other day I gave the fellow I sold it to his $250 US back for it since he quit shooting trap. My friend you could be thrown in jail for stealing.

P/W 800 B

:D Hello Catfish:

Thanks for the info.  That will go a long way to getting me started.

Is the 800 B sensitive to using different hulls?  Do I have to make any adjustments when switching from Federal hulls to Winchester Hulls?  How do I set the wad pressure?  What about the crimp pressure?

I e-mailed P/W asking for instructions.  They have not responded.

I feel a little sheepish about the price I payed for the P/W.  We had a flood in our city not too long ago.  The company that went into clean out the basement of a flooded house was the ex-husband of the female employee. She grabbed the press, as it had got a LITTLE bit wet. Insurance will cover the cost of a new one.  So, someone's missery is another's fortune.

If you`re useing the correct wads with the different hulls there is usually no adjustment needed. Win. and Rem. hull have about the same case capisity and almost never need adjustinggoing from one to the other. Fed. cases have alot more case capisity and will require adjusting more often, but if your loading the proper wad colum for the case they usually don`t eather. I would recomand that each time you switch loads you run 1 case through the loading cycle to see how the final shell comes out. The biggest thing that causes a problem is not getting the primer seated deep enough, just make sure that you push hard enough on the handle to get the primer seated. The only thing that will require much adjustment is the wad seater. When your loading heaver charges of shot it will have to be set deeper. You should have no trouble figureing out what you need to know. I you have a problem drop me a PM and I try to answer your questions.
