Deer:  I will be starting out with the 35 Rem w/180grSSP's loaded for it.  Then I will go to a 30.06 Encore pistol for field work.  Planning on trying the .44 w/open sights as an opportunity gun in the woods.  Then maybe at the end of the year working with the 250 Sav Encore in a rifle combination on the doe population.

For deer, I'm going to use my 7-30 on a contender, and if I get a second tag, I'll hopefully get to try out my 357 Herrett, or my .44 mag barrel. Of course, the 22 match will be used for squirrels.

45-70 with 350gr Hornady flatpoint for elk.  35 Rem with 200gr Sierra RN for black bear and 7-30 Waters with 120gr Ballistic Tip for coues whitetail. Also will be using my 221 Fireball with 50gr V-max for coyotes on some hunts this year to see how it performs.

For deer on stand: 10" 357Max with Hornady 180, 375JDJ with Hornady 270, 6.5JDJ if I get it ready in time.

For deer while I walk, 21" 30-30 contender carbine, unscoped.  This will be my brush gun for deer on the move.

It's gonna be fun!

One place I hunt is heavy forest/timber taking the 44 mag this year.Another area  I hunt is a little more opened the 357 herrett and 7-30 will share this one.Another place is deer stand only no walk or stalk I'm thinking 357 max or 45 colt.
Can't wait ,the little hair's on my neck are standing up.Man I love the fall.

For Whitetails I'll be using my Super 14 .30-30 AI Contender with 125gr. Nosler Ballistic Tips @ 2683 FPS with a 2x7x32mm Burris LER Handgun Scope.

If it ever shows up I also plan on filling any antlerless tags I get with my OTT 6mm T/CU hopefully shooting 80gr. Nosler Ballistic Tips. In addition I plan on totin this 6mm T/CU for Coyotes also probably with either 55gr. Nosler Ballistic Tips or 80gr. Nosler Ballistic Tips. I have a 3x12x32mm Burris LER Handgun Scope, Weaver Base and 3 Millett Vertical Split Scope Rings all ready for when the barrel arrives.

My 11 inch 6.5 tcu is showing real promise at the range so it is a candidate for this one of this falls hunts.  I have a tried and true 14 inch .35 Remington that  usually is my number one T/C in the woods but may try a new 16 inch .30-30 in that frame this year.  For sure my .45-.410 VR 10 inch will be on a bunny hunt.

the G2 / 14"30-30Ackley improved / 2x7 burris will see heavy use in the deer woods. shootin a 130gr hornady ssp at 2588fps. love the package!

the 15" encore in 7-08 will also see some use, and if i have enough opportunities......i may try out the 15" .243.

for squirrel.....the 22/45 ruger, and 14" 22lr match will hopefully fill a skillet or two.

if i get a chance to do some coyote huntin......i'll pull out the 14" .223, and maybe the 14" 6tcu.

too many choices.....too little time. .......thats fine with me though.......the choices, that is.  i'd love to have more time :D

My 10" 22lr may have to suffer a little this season cause I just got a .36 TC Seneca.  Gonna have to try it on the tree rats but that a story for another page nearby. For deer...my walking around and close in standing will be old reliable .30 Herret w/ 2X Leupold, .357Max and/or.41Mag open sights.  All the above are 10".  Now for more open stands and still hunting...14" 30-30AI w/ 2-7 Simmons up, but then I've got to remember that my 14" 6.5JDJ hasn't been used in two years and it is really getting depressed.  Also wouldn't mind seeing what that .260Rem Encore can do.  Oh my, I'm just going to have to forget work and spend more time hunting.  Like KYODE said, too little time and so many great choices.

For deer and elk, I'll be using a .41Magnum handgun of some sort. More than likely it'll be my Ruger OMBH. For antelope I'll probably use a 7.5 inch Ruger Redhawk that's scoped for more precise aiming at just over 100 yards.  8)

41 Fan, I know you are the 41 MAN! I just got a Bisley 41 Mag. Was out the second time today, my groups got a little smaller than last time. About three inches now at 25 yards. Hard for these old eyes to see the sights. Its fun to shoot.
I'll probably use my 10 inch 30 Herrett with 2x6 scope, or my 6mmJDJ#2 14 inch for deer this year. Deer are small in this part of the country...

Moe & Joe Mack,

You guys with the 41's rock!  I'm glad to see the 41's still going strong!

13.5" 41 GNR #2 Contender with a 16" 338-284 Encore as a backup for elk if I can manage to get away for the hunt (I had some time conflicts arise).

16.25" 6BR Encore with a 14" 6.5 JDJ as a backup for our Arizona Coues whitetail.

This is the year I will finally be able to use my 22" 17-222 Contender carbine on bunnies, tree rats, and any not-so-bright coyotes - I had some work to do with it before I got it configured properly.

Safe and good shooting to you!   :D

Javelina
If I had a dollar for every time I wanted another Contender or Encore, I'd have about $855,627,452,918

For squirrels - 22lr

For deer - 41 Mag with scope, 41 Mag without scope, 375 Win with scope or 45-70 without scope.  Which one I take just depends on my mood of barrel length and sights for the day, all will probably see service.

Coyotes - 223 or 22 hornet, both with scopes.

For hunting whitetail deer, 375 Winchester handload using 220 grain Hornady bullets. This barrel has a Leupold Gilmore red dot sight. It works well.

For hunting squirrels, a 10" octagonal barrel in .22 long rifle with open sights.

Both are great fun! 8)

Since I'll be staying close to home this season white tail deer will be the only game I'll use a TC to hunt. The only barrel I will for sure take out is my 14" SSK .257 JDJ with Burris 2-7 scope. I "might" get around to taking one or both of my Herrett barrels but that's not a certainty.

Well, I'm a newbie to handgun hunting.  I have a .300 Whisper barrel on order, and I'm about to bust with anticipation :-D.  It is a 12" bull barrel, and I have a Burris 2-7x32 scope waiting on its arrival.  The Encore rifle is staying in the safe this fall!
