casting pot died
« on: August 21, 2004, 07:11:05 AM »
Well, it had to happen.  My Lee 20 lb pot gave up the ghost this am.  Had it for over 5 years and used it pretty much on a regular basis.  Lot of lead has come out its spout.
It wouldn't get past 600* and the spout would always "freeze-up."  Now I'll know what to look for when the back-up, which is now the primary one, goes south on down the road.
'Course I'll be so old I won't remember by then

Ranger, I've been keepin' up with your casting adventures here.
So, I have a question.

You sure you didn't kill it?

Now that you mention it I did have it fall off its stand when I moved it outside to cast.  Did it twice and ruined two themometers in the process.  Guess the last fall (about 5 1/2 feet) was IT!

My backup one is soooo much better.  Spout never freezes and I can add a lead 1 pound ignot and the temp comes right back.  Can just cast, add lead, cast till I'm wore out.

Yesterday I was casting 1 oz slugs for the guy that gets me the lead.  Went straight for an hour before I ran out of steam.  Pot was still hot and ready to go at the end.

I'll order another pot on down the trail as a back-up for this one.  Wait and see if Midway has a sale on it.

I've had more than a few pots go south on me in my life! One ancient Saeco was ressurected frum the grave a few times, replacing the thermostat & element more than once. It finally got deep sixed when I could no longer find parts to fit. :(

But I'm very happy so far with my Lee 20# pot. Hope I don' drop it!!!

Yep, dropping it for 5 1/2 feet (twice!) onto concrete did not help it one bit.  At least my foot wasn't under it this time (old story about 10 lbs of lead my bare feet and a crushed toe :( )
