I just traded for subject rifle and need to know, ( on a scale of 1 thru 10) how hard it is to install a new trigger assembly in it.  I have seen new trigger assemblies listed for this model of Mauser but have zero experience with this fine sporter..Thanks in advance for you help. tacomaj

Timney makes a couple of different models of triggers that should fit your rifle (with or without safety lever).  They are typically easy to install, and usually just require punching out a pin to remove the old trigger, and possibly some minor filework to fit the new trigger assembly, set the new trigger assembly in place, tap the pin back in, tighten a jam screw and nut, and adjust the trigger.  TNT (t'ain't nuttin' tuit).  If you get the one with the safety lever (assuming you want to do away with the bolt shroud safety), then you'll have a little bit of wood to remove from the stock to accomodate the safety lever.

On a scale of 1 to 10, with 1 being the easiest possible job, I rate it about a 2 to 3.

The only thing to watch is that there is sufficient clearance in the stock for the new trigger mechanism. Also you may have to file a bit more clearance in the notch in the triggerguard that the trigger passes thru.  Not a difficult install at all.

I have put in timney triggers and bold triggers.  I like the bold trigger with the safety.  You can do away with the mauser 98 bolt safety.  About a half hour install with all the tools out.  Check Midway for bold trigger sales.  They are on special about every other month.

Good luck,
