i'm considering getting one myself, but i am a little concerned about the misfiring i'm reading about. is it very common? i handload and quite frequently necksize only in my boltactions. will i still be able to do this with the encore?

It appears that neck sizing and break open guns do not work well together.

resizing is a little more critical in the TC's. size too much......and you stretch cases, and run a risk of introducing misfires by pushing the shoulder back too far. you want to size till the casehead sticks out of a removed barrel a couple thousandths less than the barrel to frame gap.
size too little............and you will not be able to cock the hammer on a encore, or G2. the contender will simply misfire in this situation.

they are worth the extra attention required!

it is not entirely impossible to get away with neck sizing some. it's just that you could VERY easily run into these problems. the trick is knowing what you did, and how to fix it.

I think there is a general misunderstanding about what may be happening. The new T/Cs have a hammer block safety system. If you do not full engage the trigger safety by firmly holding the trigger all the way back while shooting the hammer is prevented from hitting the firing pin. This causes a "misfire". The safety has to come all the way up and stay there during the firing process. Let your finger down and the safety drops. Once I learned the trick no more misfires.

have 5 contenders....one G2.....and 3 encores, but have never had the trigger problem. not saying it isn't so.....just havn't had that problem myself.
i have had the gun not lock up completely because of excessive case length/headspace, and this will not let the hammer cock on the G2/encore guns. on the older contenders, this situation results in a misfire.
if there's problems to be had.......seems like i have em. :lol: just lucky in the trigger pull maybe. :?

I have a bunch of barrels for Encores and Contenders and have never had the misfire problem (except with a 35 Rem which is a beast of its own). I neck size my bottleneck cases and also sometimes full length size without any misfires. Also shoot factory ammo without any problems. Maybe I am just lucky, but I would not worry about it if I wanted one because I do not think you are likely to have any problems.

i did a little test with 6tcu cases in my contender. i fired, and refired the same 20 cases over and over about 8 times. i resized the first firings without bumping shoulders back. on about the 7th firing of the case, misfires showed up. retried, and it got worse(multiple misfires out of the 20 cases). so.........i bumped the shoulder back slightly to match the barrel to frame gap. misfires imediately disappeared.

it took that many firings before the cases lengthened enough from head to shoulder to cause the misfires. so...............if a guy has 100 pieces of brass, it could take up to 700-800 rounds before the misfires start showing up. that is considering if you rotate thru all the 100 cases before starting over.

I think KYODE pretty much hit the nail on the head!

If you neck or partial resize, you need to closely monitor your case length because you need to have a positive lock-up when you close your action!
Case length is critical.

Some posts have also lead some of us to believe that we can't use a hammer extension! I don't, but I would try one if I thought it was necessary for scope clearance!
