Ballistic Comparison
« on: August 23, 2004, 12:41:58 PM »
ballistically how do the .357 Herrett and the .35 Remington compare?  Muzzle energy and velocity at 100 yds.  Seems to me that if they are comparable that the .357 Herrett might get the nod due to the rim?  Just wondering?  Can anyone help me out?

the 357herret was designed for a 10" barrel. The 35 remwas chambered for the guys who wanted a 35cal for sillywets. The herret performs best at near max velocity with 158 & heavier bullets.!58 could get to 2300 fps.180 grain bullets get 2000-2100.this is in a 14" barrel, about 200 less in a 10".
the 35 rem can reach 2300 with 158's in a 14" barrel. The 180's reach 2100 fps. getting down to brass tacks, either will do what you need done. If you like to form cases the herret is the one to get. If you don't handload, factory 35 rem is available.
