Our "favorite" Senator is at it again...Look out W
« on: August 24, 2004, 06:25:21 AM »
NY's "favorite" Senator is at it again...Seems he is trying to coax the rest of the nation and the House of Representatives giving their stamp of approval to extend the assault weapon ban.  I like the way he posts himself in front of a K-Mart...K-Mart never even sold "assault" weapons...

CHUCK URGES STORE GUN BAN

By STEPHANIE GASKELL

August 23, 2004 -- Sen. Charles Schumer is urging Wal-Mart and Kmart department stores not to sell assault weapons, even though a federal ban will expire next month.
"You hear a lot about corporate responsibility these days — well, this is an easy way for the big store chains to do the right thing for the communities they serve and keep military-style, cop-killing weapons off our streets," Schumer said yesterday during a press conference in front of Kmart on Astor Place, which never sold the weapons.

Unless Congress acts, a federal ban that was put in place in 1994 will expire next month.

Schumer said the assault weapons ban has been "a huge success" in keeping crime down. "In terms of safety, America will take a step back [if the law expires]," Schumer said.

Along with Sen. Diane Feinstein (D-Calif.), Schumer wrote the original legislation a decade ago.

So far, the Senate has approved an extension of the ban, but the House has not.

"The gun lobby is very powerful," Schumer said.

If the ban expires, assault rifles will still be banned in New York under a stricter state law. Only seven states, including New York, have an assault weapons ban.

But Schumer pointed out that New York has the highest number of crimes committed with guns purchased out of state. In 2001, 3,662 crimes were committed with out-of-state guns.

Of those, 1,971 crimes involved guns bought in Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia. By contrast, in those five states, only 78 guns involved in a crime were sold in New York.

"If these assault weapons are available for sale Tuesday morning down South, it's a pretty sure bet they will be here by Tuesday night," Schumer said.

Schumer also warned that assault weapons could be bought and used by potential terrorists.

"These assault weapons only have one purpose — to kill a lot of people quickly," Schumer said.

Wal-Mart and Kmart did not immediately return calls for comment.

Two things you have to realize about schumer is that (1) he always has his mouth open, the same way mario the cuomo did and (2) just as with cuomo, his message - that same old message- gets tired, real tired after a while an dpeople just get tired of listening to him.  Those types burn themselves out after a while and then fade away, just like cuomo.  And, herr frau von klinton isn't too far behind.  Just my two cents worth though.

And, btw, is it any surprise that neither k-mart or wally-world have yet to comment.................  Mikey.

Daveinthebush, the only problem with that, is their "federal lawmakers" so anything they pass will effect everyone in the country not just New Yorker's!

Does anyone else here think that we have too large of a government?  Maybe if we were to shed some governmental layers then our taxes might stabilize for a while instead of going up up up up up...

assault style weapons, who needs them
« Reply #6 on: September 05, 2004, 03:41:43 AM »
assault style weapons scare people and rightly so,  the public does not
want to see a  homicidal nut case with one of those in his hands

last year a teen age boy in a local high school had a shot gun wrestled away from him by a couple of teachers before he could use it,  not good, but maybe better than a semi auto with a couple 30 round clips.

it seems like a choice of maybe several people killed by some nut case or maybe 20 to 30

I do not feel the constitution or my rights are infringed by not being allowed to have certain things, howitzer, 50 cal, full auto, ect

Also, government grows for many reasons, one is that our population grows,   we are a rich country,  we can afford the size of our govt and
all the benefits it brings.

Then clearly Lee you have no better understanding of what the Second Amendment is about than do the democraps trying to make it useless. The day will come (most likely in your life time) when you WILL understand all too well. But then it will be too late.

With a pair of senators like chucky and billary how in the world do you decide which is your favorite???    :D

SHUMMER
« Reply #9 on: September 06, 2004, 06:00:52 AM »
Shummer hates everything that this country has fought for in its entire history.Freedom, the right not to be taxed to death, anything that has to do with the use of animals, including farm animals. He was a member of PETA,a terrorist organization based in the United states. And the only reason he's still in office is the ignorant people of NYC.
Have you gone into a convient store lately ? There's more lottery tickets than cigarettes, gas is at an all time hi,and we have casinos all over the state. With all this tax money coming in,where is it all going ? My taxes have only gone up in the past ten years, not down.
I too, will most likely leave New York State in the future to a more affordable state. And I would like to thank Mr.Shummer for his part in this.

Gunowners like this are bigger enemies to us than Chuck and Hitlary. It'll be "Assault Rifles" first, then semiautomatic pistols (don't need dem fer huntin'!) then no carry of pistols at all, other than hunting target shooting (already true in much of New York), then it'll be semi-automatic weapons, then increasing registration of bolt guns (i.e. "sniper rifles") and pump shotguns (i.e. "riot guns").

By the way, keep an eye on the news, you'll see Marines carrying  pump shotguns when they are doing house to house fighting. A 12 gauge loaded with buckshot is right up there with a .50 caliber inside a building like a school.

Aimless, you are correct as is everyone else in their response to Lee.  Anyone who cares about their Second Amendment Freedoms should join the NRA and join the fight...

Mr graybeard, the 2nd amendment
« Reply #12 on: September 07, 2004, 04:55:24 PM »
says the    "right"    to bear arms shall not be infringed

you can never lose that right

but it does not say

the right to bear any arm you please shall not be infringed

otherwise wouldnt the NRA  take congress to the supreme court
quite often for the laws it passes,  seems so to me.  Many laws have
been passed,  like Brady bill when Reagan got shot, ect.  If this was a
violation of 2nd amendment it would have to be challanged.

Actually NO! The NRA is afraid to take a test case forward. They are afraid they will lose. Also it is VERY difficult to pin them down on it anyway. The Supremes don't want to touch that test case. The ones who'd vote away our rights are afraid they'd not have enough votes to do it. The ones who'd protect it also are afraid they can't muster the needed votes to do that. So neither side in the Court wants a test case to come to them. And they are almost deal even split between liberal democraps and conservative Republicans right now.

The wording is pretty plain for all to see who have eyes to see. Still the Congress and the Courts have both MISINTERPRETED and just out right changed the US Constitution so badly they now think it means whatever they want it to mean.

And I guess by golly it does. UNTIL someone takes them to task for it. Seems it might have been Franklin who penned some words something like "Freedom has to be renewed from time to time with the blood of tyrants and patriots". That's the ONLY way now it could ever be turned around and I honest think it's really gone too far for even that to succeed.

Unfortunately, there are other "exceptions" to the freedoms guaranteed by the Bill of Rights (i.e. The First Amendment and "hate speech"), so although it is distasteful to many of us, the Second Amendment has also been limited, no more so than in my once much better state of New York. The only thing that will prevent the loss of our Second Amendment rihgts altogether is constant vigilance. The NRA is not perfect, but without them, we would have been lost long ago, so personally, I put up with the "politics" they have to exercise in order to win the war.
Finally, even though I am a realist, I will never give in to the lying anti's and appeasing, "rational" gunowners who think "a little control" is OK. Ask the British, Australian and Canadian gun afficionados if they think the incremental erosion of their gun rights turned out for the better.
An afterthought: the only reason we have the senators we do in this state is their liberal, voting powerbase in NYC, Buffalo, Albany, Rochester, etc. Shumer is a self-promoting, camera-hogging slimeball and Clinton is a dangerously ambitious and power-hungry one-world-order fanatic. If anything, the demographics are changing more in their favor, but those who flee the state are IMO only escaping the same problems temporarily. Almost every state in the union is becoming less rural, less attached to the land and more socially liberal. I'll stay here where we've already gone through the anguish of the changeover.

Schumer, ect
« Reply #16 on: September 09, 2004, 10:54:15 AM »
I heard that Schummer is pushing for more hunter access, he might only
be 99 percent bad.

"shall not be infringed",  what does it mean?

How many examples of the goverment asserting a right to legislate do we need.  Pistol permits, hunting regulatlions,  Brady Bill,  ATF regulaltions,  there are hundreds,  thousands of laws out there now.

Now, some of you folks are saying that every one of those is a violation of the 2nd  amendment, and nobody would challange even one of those laws,  please lets get real about this.  Read my lips, that makes no sense if you think about it even a little.  The supreme court is also conservative
to neutral, certainly not liberal.

I am sick of hearing that one law or regulatlion will start a dominoe effect and wipe out all gun rights.  We have thousands of laws and I have all the stuff I need to hunt with and more.

If we can accept that the public should not carry grenades around,
(pick any example you choose),   then why not certain firearms.

NRA does some good work but they also want you to be paranoid and hysterical so you will ante up your dues on cue.

Someone mentioned taxes in NY.

NY taxes are high because of medicaid,   New York loses jobs constantly and without good paying jobs the medicaid bills are enormous.  Thats why local taxes are high in most places also,  caused by the counties constantly being hit with their portion of the medicaid bill.  With a lot of good jobs and lower health care costs medicaid would go away as a
significant expense.

OK,  going out to do some shooting before the gestapo arrives.
