When did it all come together for you?????
« on: August 25, 2004, 02:02:23 PM »
I remember early on in my coyote trapping career when I was my own worst enemy.I always had doubts about what I was doing,is this the correct location?,is my set O.K.?,what about my lure choice? etc.I spent a day and a half with Gary Jepson,he went over my set construction, reviewed location and discussed canine diet changes throughtout the trapping season with a little biology thrown in for good measure.I went home and was confident about what I was doing, yes it was hard work, but I really enjoyed it.The numbers took care of themselves. When I look back I can see I was prisoner to a lot of misinformation.Coyotes got easy to catch. There isn't a day that goes by without me thinking about trapping.
I love the smell of coyote gland lure early in the morning. It smells like victory!!

I started out as a young teen when an old govt trapper named Homer Pickens showed me how to trap coyotes. He wrote a book on the subject. I never really knew how lucky I was to have had such a mentor. I trapped alot growing up but moved away from the area in 82 and didnt trap until last year when my 13 yr old daughter saw traps hanging in the barn and wanted to know how they worked. To make a long story short she trapped 10 days and caught 22 coyotes,18 grey fox and 6 cats on 120 traps. It was fun she is a trappingholic and I had never known how much I missed it. We have 170 traps ready for this year and are planning to trap with 3 other kids.
