41 mag blackhawk blueing?
« on: August 27, 2004, 07:26:43 AM »
The backstrap on my blackhawk is scuffed and I tried some birchwoodcasey perma blue liquid. stuff normally works pretty good for me, but this time it acted like water. metal never changed color at all. Any ideas on how to fix the backstrap, or what is wrong with the metal/blueing?

This is just a guess but it may be because the gripframes for Ruger Blackhawks are aluminum.  Not familiar with using the home blue method but perhaps it just doesn't work with the material.

I didn't know they were aluminum.   Maybe some high quality black paint is in order?

Try some Birchwood-Casey Alumiblack. It works great for touch-ups.

browells sells stuff to touch them up but if it were me i wouldnt worry about it. every one of my rugers blued and aluminmum that have seen any shooting have the bluing wore off the back strap. Touch it up and it will be wore in a couple days shooting anyway. Gives them a little character anyway.
