225 or22-250

I am looking for a coyote gun and am considering 225win or the 22-250. I reload so headspacing is a consern. the 225 checks off rim and 22-250 off the sholder witch is better or is it that big of a deal (I may be spitting hairs). Also is their an accuracy problem with  the 225?

You can setup your dies so both headspace off the shoulder. My choice would be 22-250 because of the ease at which you can find brass. ...and tons of loading info. Performance wise I don't think there is any significant difference in either speed or accuracy.

skb is correct, either cartridge can headspace on the shouler.....

I would go with the 225Win just because it is uncommon and very few people I know have them.  Just a personal choice.

I'd consider the 22BR instead.

Only 225's I shoot are 257 and 6.5 JDJ's - I sold all my 22-250's, pistols and rifles.   Various 17's for coyotes here (more pelt friendly) - and the 36 cal. ML's.
Evolution at work. Over two million years ago the genus Homo had small cranial capacity and thick skin to protect them from their environment. One species has evolved into obese cranial fatheads with thin skin in comparison that whines about anything and everything as their shield against their environment. Meus

Bad Shooter,
Your splitting hairs. Eather would be a good choice. I might suggest another round which I think is better and that is the .204 Ruger. That is, it is better if you are a hide hunter, if you don`t care how big the hole is out the other side, any thing from the .17 Rem. or the .222 Rem up will work fine. The flatter shooting rounds just blowing bigger holes at longer ranges.

One thing to consider is the availability of brass.  The last I heard, .225 brass had been discontinued by Winchester.  That does not mean that another maker won't produce it, but the risk of not having a source of brass is there.  You could use .30.30 brass, but that is a LOT of work.

If you want your cases to last then headspace them off the shoulder, NOT the rim.  Head seperations are likely, just as they are with the Herrett twins and the .35 Remington if they are improperly sized.  Bottom line - ignore the rim.

The .225 will always give slightly less performance than the .22-250 because it has a smaller case capacity, but the difference is small.  If you are willing to risk the brass issue and want something different, the .225 is a fine choice.
