« on: August 28, 2004, 05:48:37 PM »
I am currently using the Rem Express Core-lokt for deer in my .270, 130g...Does anybody have any opinions on a better deer cartridge, thanks in advance  :D

I don't know if they are any better, but I use the 150 grain remington core-lokts and they work great for me. I have taken probably 12-15 deer with them and every one of them dropped where they were standing. When I bought the gun I grabbed three boxes of shells 130gr., 150gr. core-lokts and a box of 140gr. hornady spire points. Two of them shot horribly and one shot terrific the 150 core-lokts and that is what I have been shooting for about 10 years now.

If I were you I would try something from the Federal line...Power-Shoks or better yet something from the Premium Federal Ammunition line, the Vital-Shok Nosler Solid Base Boat Tail is about the same price as CORE-LOKTs(The Vital-Shoks may be a few $'s more.) The Nosler Solid Base should be great on whitetail and it has been my experience that Federals are more precise with their bulk loads...

I have killed a GREAT many animals with regular CORE-LOKTs and have never had a problem at all........

If price is not an option, look into Black Hills Ammunition.

Hornady makes good ammo too.

There is a lot of other good choices but I have had good luck with the above.

I have found the Express factory load to be a dam fine deer round and if it shoot good in your rifle use it.  Another good factory load is Winchesters 150 grain power point which seems a bit less destructive at dlose range.
