If you could pick one remington....
« on: August 28, 2004, 06:01:39 PM »
If you could pick one remington to own...and only one...what would it be?
For me it would probally be the Model 700 ADL in .270 win....I dont own this particular Rem, but I've read about it and think its probally a great shooter...The reason for the .270 is because I own one in a Win M70 and think the world of the caliber...

A Remington M24 Sniper Weapon System chambered in .300 Win. Mag.
I believe that would keep me covered and happy, not that I would be happy with just one Remington, I just answered your question.

I would have to agree with you, but I'd rather it be a Model 700 CDL in .270.

Works great for deer, just a little heavy, as for the groundhogs....blows their little heads slick off

No...I'm sorry....I take that decision back. I would rather own an 11-87 SPS. That equals the all around shotgun (especially for turkey and waterfowl)

Well, I don't like the thought, (I love Remingtons too much) but I''ll play. My choice would be a Model 700 P in 308 Winchester. I can think of very little that combination won't handle.

I have mine as well.  My Remington 7600 in .35 Whelen.

IF they made it, I would be VERY tempted by a Remington 7400 in .358 Winchester.

I kind of like my Rem. 760 carbine in 30-06 as well. :D

I just got back from sighting in with my rebarreled Enfield.  It is a 35 Whelen Improved.  This is quickly becoming my favorite firearm of all time.  Still ironing out a few kinks with the new scope.  I need to take down the front scope base a little because it is shooting abou 4 inches low at 100 yds.  But I remember having this same problem when I first bought it years ago.  The receivers were milled down in the back to sporterize and they arent necessarily all cut the same.

It would probably be the Rem 673 in 350 Rem Mag because no one else offers anything similar.

Yea...I too would like to eventually own a 673 in .350. Just to see what it's like. When I was a youngin and my first time deer hunting I didn't have a rifle. So my adult companion offered me to use his Model 600 Mohawk in .243. The gun is almost similar (except for the vented rib barrel). I'm glad Remington ressurected that gun.

Since we're just picking...

Make mine a Remington Hepburn or Creedmore and while you're at it, make it presentation grade and unfired, please.

Thank you very much, I'll even come to pick it up.

Best regards

Well I got 3 of  my 4 dream Remingtons. #1 is an Original Model 1863 New Model Army precussion revolver. (This is one the one that people call the 1858 Remingotn)This belonged to my great grandfathers brother in law. The weapon is not in collectors grade since about 30 years ago before I knew what is really was my father and I stripped the last of the blue off of it and  re blued it.  Since it is not worth  much to a collector it is a wonderfull shooter.  Puts my Pietta Remington clone to shame. Next is my Grandfathers M721 in 30-06. Open sights and if I do my part it wil take out a prarie dog at 200 yards. More deer have been laid on the kitchen table with that gun by 3 generations than any other rifle in our family. He bought in brand new from Gambles Hardware in Las Vegas NM in 1949. The 3rd on is my Dads old M760 Remington in 30-06. He bougth it new at Gambles in 1955. A sweet shooting piece of iron to have ever come out of Ilon New York.  Folks laugh at that old rifle with it's nicked stocked and scratched metal, but I know every story behind every scratch and nick. Like the dent in the stock on the pistol grip where my Dad tied a rope around it and lowered the rifle to me after I feel down a small rock shelf at 12 years old. Had my put on arm over the stock and one ofther barrel and he hauled me up. Or when I was 12 and ammo laws where not so strick and I was able to buy 5 165 grain soft points from the A McArthurs General store in Wagon Mound and got my first deer on Elmer Wiggins ranch and I was so excited I droped the rifle after I hit the deer and it slid down a ravine and got that long scrape in the reciever and stock along the left side. Wow to many stories to tell here.  Plus I know how it feels on my shoulder and my eyes drop right in to allingment .As pumps go she is plenty accurate. Using Remignton Express Core Locks PSP in 165 grains she will hold a bit over an inch at 100 yards and abour 2 1/4 " at 200. Using Mill Surplus 150 grains FMJ's she will tighten up to sub 1" at 100 yards and  a tad under 2" at 200. Past that my eyes are not good enough!!!

Now if Remington would add one more rifle to the line up. Mr. E. Remingtons  Flintlock  The first he made in the original factory. Now THAT would be a dream Remington!!!!

Also I forgot to add in my 1985 model 870 Express shotgun that has taken me twice to the state amature skeet tornies herein NM. I got a lot of laughs at that trombone action, but after shooting 3 x 25 in a semi final stage and this yuppie paid me my 5 bucks and a Cocke the old range master  let him know that it is unwise to bet against a person with a halfway worn out pump shotgun!!!
Enemies may come into our country and times will have changed, but then the boys will come down from the old high hills and belt on their guns again.

If this is a question of practicality then I would have to say my 870 because of it's do all character and also because of it's simplicity...but I would surely miss the 700ML and the 700 BDL 308 and the nylon 66!
