"Enfauser's"???
« on: August 28, 2004, 07:10:06 PM »
i read on a website the other day about a rifle built by the turks during WW1 or maybe after, that was combination of Turk 8mm Mauser's and Lee-Enfields captured at Galipoli. the end result was referred to as an "Enfauser" i think the mauser was rebarreled with SMLE barrels to make use of a large quantity of captured ammo for second string troops. for the life of me i can't remember the site. do these oddities ever show up at north american gunshows? i imagine they would have a fairly steep price tag.

If the Turks wanted to make use of captured stores of ammo, presumably British, wouldn't they want to keep the Enfield action?

i had it backwards. the SMLE's where converted to 8MM, not the other way around

heres a pic:

but i couldn't find  much more than a few references on there origins, aside from the fact that most where captured at galipoli. i can't tell if its been rebarreled, can't really make out the rear sight. could you repeatedly fire a .318" bullet down a .312" barrel safely? probably not.

An interesting application? Does this make them a Mausfield then.....

I would've thought however that the SMLE action may not necessarily be up to the higher pressure loads that Mauser actions regularly use. Or did the WWI military ammo use lower chamber pressures than the action was capable of handling?
