Recoil Pad Help
« on: August 29, 2004, 05:26:55 PM »
Anyone know of a prefab recoil pad for the  M77 MKII laminate?

I just got a 338 and after about 30 rounds, it's wearing my a$$ out at the range.

I've tried printed both M77 templates from limbsaver's site and neither fit (wrong dimensions and hole locations).  The Pachmayr version says it's for the walnut stock.  Looks like I'm striking out on both ends.

I really don't want to mess with grinding down a generic pad, for the time and money I'd rather just get a gunsmith to do it.  Any suggestions?

Thanks-

Since you are concerned with recoil at the range and not recoil in general maybe consider a slip on style like this one available from Ruger. It's made by Galco and available from a lot of other places a lot cheaper, but the Ruger Logo is nice. 8) Especially on the range.

Maybe also consider the kind you wear like this one from Cabela's.

There are other brands that offer these style pads...but I know someone that has a Galco on a big bore and it works well enough you can tell a difference... http://cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templates/product/standard-item.jhtml?id=0003680223312a&navAction=jump&navCount=4&indexId=&podId=0003680&catalogCode=XE&parentId=&parentType=&rid=&_DARGS=%2Fcabelas%2Fen%2Fcommon%2Fcatalog%2Fitem-link.jhtml.1_A&_DAV=search&hasJS=true

Stay Safe. Happy Shooting.  :D

Another way to deal with your problem may be to get a PAST recoil shield instead. It will do two things for you. One is to help reduce felt recoil and it will simulate the thickness of winter hunting clothing.
