Cobra?? Anyone heard of them?
« on: August 30, 2004, 04:14:27 AM »
Went to a gun show this past weekend and saw some Cobra guns. First time I have noticed them, looked at a .380 for $105 new...Any opinons?

Thanks,

Jim

Davis Industries is now Cobra Arms.  They are inexpensive or cheap depending on your opinion, zinc guns.  I bought one many moons ago in 380 to try out. Although the gun functioned well and was accurate enough for its purpose I would not recommend it. The serrations on the slide act like taking a course file to your hand while shooting. After most shooting sessions I would end up bloody. The only way you can safely carry the gun is with the chamber empty. The safety as well as the firing mechanism is very Mickey Mouse.

Cobra bought the Patriot 45 design.
I worked up a 460 Rowland load in mine with 45acp brass, but I had to make a 42 pound recoil spring assembly.
Nice little 22 ounce gun for Grizzly country.
Deactivated for posting dangerous load data and using GBO e-mail to harrass other members.

I once had a Davis Industries 380 that almost sent the slide into my wife's  forhead. The metal was so cheap that during recoil, the slide was cracking and ready to come apart and continue rearward with the next shot. Fortunately, it felt funny in her hand and she asked me what happened. The next round would have probably killed her and I had the gun repaired. It sits in my safe in unused condition. There was a warning packaged with these guns not to use certain ammunition because of the gun's strength. That is a sign of poor quality if you ask me.

I don't believe the Patriot series is zinc.  Also the Patriot .45 was designed by a noted Israeli gun designer and from all the information I have been able to locate, it's a pretty interesting pistol.  JB Woods really liked the one he tested.  They have a super tough polymer frame.  It looks like a Kahr.
