bear bait problems
« Reply #30 on: September 17, 2004, 12:52:26 PM »
well i know bears are somewhat like humans what happens when u eat to much chocolate it will make u sick right, well i have notice in my baiting if i make a bear sick off from a bait he will not come back to it .  so u may have made them sick and now they will not come back to it so just keep it going and one will find it but cut back on the chocolate and try to go to more donuts and pastries and you will have better luck. i had baits out this year and they got hit good for about a week then the berries ripened up and they stopped coming into the bait to eat but where checking to make sure it was still there now that the berries are going by the baits are getting cleaned out every nite. so just keep going they are there if they where there once they know where it is and will be back to it when other food supplies run out hopefully before the end of the season

bait problem

Just hang out at an illegal dump site for white trash.  They dump
out plenty of stuff that bears will approach (baby crap, malt liquor
cans).  The bears will go in the trash especially and try to find
goodies.  They get intrigued by all of the different smells and look
for something tasty.

You don't need to travel far out in the woods to litter with your barrels
of honey and fast food wrappers to kill a bear.

This is too good of a secret somebody (the bears), are going to get
pissed off when one of you reads this and tears 'em a new (censored word).

Please don't shoot the mother with the cubs, because later on the
cubs could grow up to be damn nice specimens.  Kill the adult males because odds are the females will get impregnated anyway and the
males are the only ones worth killing, unless you are living off of
bear meat, and if this is the case, just hang out where you dump your
trash and you'll find some nice bears.

And we wonder why Anti's think we bait illegally and unethically, it's because of IDIOTS like this they do.

1.)Everybody that hunts bear knows (or should know) never to shoot a mother with cubs unless the is charging you...Common sense

2.)Everybody should know this one also....don't dump your trash in the damn woods to try and shoot a bear, use ETHICAL baiting methods....Geez..

3.)I hope you get hit with a HUGE fine when the Wardens catch you doing this

4.)I'd expect better hunting ethics out of a 5 year old who has parents that bait and hunt.

5.)Read the damn hunting laws, they're there for people like you who don't seem to know them...

Oh yeah, one last thing...I HOPE YOU NEVER SEE ANOTHER BEAR IN YOUR BEAR HUNTING LIFE
Down with Maine Citizens for Fair Bear hunting!
----It will kill Maine's hunting economy....Is this really what we need?
----Plus, all you other Northeasterners, if it goes through here.......your more then likely NEXT

HELP!!!!I have a problem with my bait

Well put.

It is amazing how many people who have no idea what it is all about. I went last weekend in New Hampshire hunting bear and not one bear went to the baits. There is so much natural food that they aren't interested in the baits.

I'd say that the chances of killing a sow with a cub is greater when NOT using dogs or bait. People will just snap shoot at that rare opportunity and then discover the ball of fur a minute later.

Well guys I tried Bearscents bacon flavor, honey burns, and mollasses and still nothing...I guess they all just left the area. Thanks for all your suggestions, I guess I'll just have to wait and try again in another 5 years :(

don't give up yet, it may be longer than 5 years before you get another tag. In our area the bear have quit feeding also at lots of different sites. Went for a scouting ride on Saturday with the ATV and a hunting partner, he has a current tag for this hunt period. In 54 miles and 7and a half hours of riding we saw only one set of tracks that were fresh and they were a small bear. The people that we know that are hunting over bait are all experiencing changes in feeding habits, may be the un seasonably warm weather that we are having.

yes, it could be longer then 5 years..thats for sure. It took me 5 years this time. I'll tell you what Bear by far is the hardest thing I ever hunted, I have yet to see one during season. 5 years ago I had them hitting the bait but couldnt get them in during shooting hours but at least they were hitting the bait. I'm not giving up yet but it not looking good thats for sure. Are you in the carney area as well?
