Encore 300 mag grouping problems
« on: August 31, 2004, 07:29:19 AM »
I bought a new 300 barrel and have broke in the barrel have shot 100+ bullets changing various manufactuers trying to find which one the gun likes best. New scope, solid rests. 150 gr bullets. At 100yds I have 1/2 in  groups. But once I go back to 200 yds it may group 2 at 1 inch groups then have a 6 inch flyer high then next shot 6inch low. I cant get it to be consistant at 200 yds which I need it to be and out to 300yds. Iam very frustrated. Any Ideas. Resonable expectations on my part.

Odd.....do you have a chronograph?  If not buy or borrow one.  Need to take a look at the standard deviations.

Not to pick at you but how is your form.....same as at 100yds?  Anything else change when you move to 200yds?

How do you feel the recoil is?  I can imagine it is punishing without a brake on it.

Have you repeated your 100yd groups after shooting at 200yds?

Not much help but someone has to ask.

I have had it chronagraphed, I believe I am shooting the same way each time. Have any of you all had any head space problems? I am loading a 168 ct ballistic tip nosler. Have any of you used this load and would you share your specs with what is working for you, like type of powder and how much. My factory remington 150s group 1/2 inch at 100 but all my problems come at 200 or more. don't get me wrong I love my Encore as I have used it for years in 50 cal muzzleloader and get 1/2 ich groups at 100 all day long. I just leave soon on an antelope hunt and want to be able to shoot 300 yrds with confidence. Thanks for your help and ideas.

What type of scope are you using? If the scope is not parallex adjustable it might be factory set at 100 yards, therefore it would not be parallex free at 200 yards.

Just a thought.

I don't want to be the bearer of bad news but your problem don't surprise me. When I first bought my encore that is what I had the 300 win mag. It didn't shoot worth a penny. I sent back to t/c a total of three times and then I told them to send me a new. I requested a 7mm RM in its place. One time they would say this was wrong with it the next time it was something else. Sometimes I wonder if they know what they are doing up there. I got .45 cal mzl. barrel last year and I had a bounch of trouble from it to.
