I prefer to taint bait for canines and bobcat. Not rotten, just tainted enough that a chunk of bait is stinky but still pink in the center and then preserve it at that point. Adding some ingredients to the bait such as glands, musks, essential oils and exoctic powders will definitely increase its effectiveness and appeal to the animal. For example, one might add ground beaver castor, about 1 to 2 ozs per pint and create a curiosity appeal to the canine. Generally speaking, the more ingredients added, the better and more effecyive the bait becomes. A simple favorite formula of many old time fox trappers was to add either anise oil, honey or both to the bait. A favorite formula of old time Michigan coyote bounty trappers was venison tainted and aged with beaver castor, coyote urine and asafoedita powder. One would have to experiment with a few different formulas and ingredient amounts to find the right formula for them. Ace
