Well folks I did it. I had been contemplating my options for a new Muzzelloader for a month or two. I had decided to keep my old CVA mountain rifle as a range/target gun for various reasons. I had wanted to stay traditional, but still checked on guns like the NEF Huntsman and various "budget" in-lines. Well I was getting anxious because the gun I REALLY wanted was the Lyman Deerstalker. The reason I was anxious was because Midway USA was showing only 1 Right hand blued percussion in stock. Well what I was waiting for finaly came. Since I do a fair amount of business with them I usually get a special e-mail around my birthday for discounts. I logged in and prayed my gun was still there. Sure enough it WAS!!!! And instead of $269 it was discounted down to $209 and change!!!!!!!!!!! Zip zip, a few screens later and they are now short 1 rifle that should be in the mail to me Tomorrow. And since my birthday is next Friday I should have it in by then. WOO HOO!
So here is a quick question for you folks, just to get it out of the way. Since my CVA was obviously abused by the previous owner I want to know what I can do to keep my Deerstalker in tip top shape for years? Im starting with a clean slate. What kind of special pre-care should be undertaken as far as bore seasoning? Ive got BoreButter, so do I just load and shoot, pre-swab the bore with the BB or what?
Thanks,
Brian M.
P.S. Im very happy with my decision to stay "traditional."
