Mould & Casting Question

Lyman moulds 429667 & 457125. Two questions.

1. What weight, from what alloy, do they come from the mould?

2. What diameter, from what alloy, do they fall from the mould?

All posted weights for Lyman moulds are with Lyman #2 alloy.

Thanks for the reply. I should have made myself clear. I was looking for someone who has used the moulds and what their results were. I've had so much trouble with moulds that casted too small a diameter and the weights were way too heavy. Thanks again.

On the 429667 mold it should pour out 240gr. bullets(#2alloy) dai. not sure.

I use a 429421 mold and I get 255gr. bullets(WW) and dai. is .4295" 99% of the time.

LAH, there is no real answer to your questions. Lyman specs and quality have varied wildly over the years. To add to the confusion, at various times, Lyman has used both Lyman #2 and Linotype to establish bullet weights. Lyman has also been known to change bullet designs without bothering to change model numbers.

I recently debated with a poster as to whether Lyman 311410 is plain base or bevel base. Turns out mine is PB; his is BB; both our moulds are marked 311410.

Bullets too small - try adding a very thin layer of heat-proof metalic tape on one side of the mould in about 3 places around the cavity.  It will separate the mould halves sligtly and increase the diameter.  Chase this thread: http://www.castpics.net/RandD/mould_enhancement/mould_enhancement.htm

Bullets too heavy - add tin, tin is lighter than lead, mould will also fill easier.  Bullets will be slightly harder too.
