Anyone own a Polaris 325 Trailboss?
« on: September 01, 2004, 01:13:10 PM »
I just bought one of these and with it being my first ATV, I am a little clueless about maintenance issues. It's a 2001 and it seems mechanically and cosmetically perfect. what should i look for to wear out from normal use other than the tires and brakes. I got a very good deal on it and when the title work was in progress, I found out that the guy selling it was just getting out from under the payment and lost everything he invested. :D

The main things you look at on most ATV’s to be wearing out is brakes and bearings. If you don’t have sealed bearings they tend to last about 400 miles in the mud and if you are just riding around they can last several thousand miles. Brakes depend on whether you have drum or disc. The drum brakes I used to run would only last me one ride in the deep mud, sand, and water. I have been running with disc brakes now and after 400 miles I still have plenty left.

Besides brakes and bearings you should be good. Can’t really think of anything that need routine maintenance besides changing the oil and stuff. Check the diff’s every one in a while to make sure they don’t have water or anything in them.

The idiot that owned it or the dealership over greased the real axel bearings and the grease was flung on the brake rotor. I have to clean the grease off the rotor and get new pads. The battery charged up fine(it was setting for 2 years according to the seller) and he even threw in a Polaris oil change kit with 3 quarts of synthetic oil and a filter. This thing runs smooth and I'm assuming it was ridden very little. Original tires and no rust! I can't wait for the snows when the police let you run like mad men down the streets.
