Graybeard suggested I try here for some information. My wife and I visited Garnettsville cemetary a few years ago, we like history and like to look at the old gravestones. We went in seperate directions and ended up at the same spot, as if drawn there. Info below.
Capt Joseph O Read CSA
Son of Robert and Mary Read.
Born Feb 22 1844.
Died July 13 1864.
His parents, and what I believe to be a sister are also buried there. The cemetary is next to Ft Knox KY property in Meade co KY just off of hwy 1638. My wife and I visit there several times a year and take flowers. There is no connection that we know of but we some how feel the need to pay our respects to this young soldier. His is the only confederate grave that we have found there.
We would like to know more about this young man. How he died, where he was killed, which battle, what regiment and state he fought under. He probably joined in Tenn, or Va.
Where he and others are buried there are huge oak trees that were probably still acorns or saplings when he was buried. I could close my eyes and see an elderly man and woman with hat in hand, and tearful eyes standing over their sons grave. I could picture a team of horses and a wagon in the background. Last year there were thousands of tiny wild strawberries all over, I'd never seen such small strawberries. Any info will be greatly appreciated. Thank you. Charlie, POWDERMAN.
