Super Blackhawk Bisley Hunter .45 lc
« on: September 05, 2004, 01:29:35 AM »
I am interested in starting to hunt with a handgun and the Bisley Hunter looks what I am interested in except in Ruger's 2004 catalog they only offer this in .44 mag. Are there any .45 lc that were made in this model in the past? If so, where could I find one?

I am already into the .45 lc caliber with my Vaquero, Beretta Stampede, and Marlin CBC rifle and would like to stay with it. I don't really care for the Redhawks and would rather stay with SA if possible.

I don't believe there were any Bisley Hunters cataloged in anything but .44 magnum.  There were other Hunters made, although not cataloged,  in .41 magnum and .45lc.  Both were made in the std Hunter configuration and thd .41 magnum was also made in a Bisley configuration.  Changing from std. to Bisley is a fairly easy swap of parts.  These later ones can still be found occasionally and the .41 models may still be avail from the distributor (Davidson's).  The .45lc model was distributed by Lipsey's.
  Got the .45 Hunter myself.

Check out gunbroker.com and gunsamerica.com. I have seen them at both sites.

macbullet ...

That is exactly what I had in mind. I could do the Bisley conversion later but I just got to get me one like yours as soon as possible.

Where did you get those grips? Do you hunt with yours?

There's three of them on Auction Arms for under $500.  I believe I paid $450 or maybe a bit more for mine brand new.  I wouldn't pay much over $500 for one before the other expenses involved (s/h & transfer fees).

bigjeepman,
Good to hear from you.  If you find yourself a SBH Hunter in 45 LC, a grip frame swap-out is easy.  A couple of years ago I had a stainless SBH in .44 mag.  It was a good shooter, but the grip angle and trigger guard kept my hand wrecked.  I got a "kit" from Brownells that consisted of a grip frame, trigger, hammer and a few small parts.  It only took one afternoon to face down the grip frame to match the frame.  A worn green scothguard pad gave me a finish match.  So now I have a 7 1/2" SS SBH Bisley that I can shoot all day without the usual aches and pains that I used to get with the old SBH grip.  Wouldn't you know it, a few months later they came out with a SBH Bisley Hunter.
If your handy with tools a grip swap would probably be easy for you to do.
Best,
TnNuc

Good to hear from you again too. You always give good advice and I appreciate that. This is my favorite forum and everyone here really tries to help the other guy I think. I don't care about reading why guy's caliber is a hundred times better than someone elses. I think this will be my next adventure into handguns.

WD45 ...

I have been shooting that .45 lc Vaquero for over a year now and still do not feel comfortable enough to "hunt" with it. A lot of it is probably my lack of shooting ability with it as I understand others can shoot pretty small groups with theirs. I practice with it but the sight picture with the Blackhawk is just so much better for me. I might even scope this project.

other guys ...

thank you for the info ... I am heading to Auction Arms now to check them out ..
