Holster advice needed
« on: September 05, 2004, 06:43:31 AM »
I am now officially the owner of a Ruger Accusport Bisley in 45 colt. I now need some holster advice. I am looking for a good fairly inexspensive hunting holster. I was thinking of a holster that would put it on my left hip so that I may draw it with my right hand.( I think this is called a crossdraw) Another option would be a bandolier style. What do you guys reccomend?

well i think it will depend if u are scoped or not if u are not the left side thing will be fine, u can get all kinds of cross draw holsters the hunter brand i heard is very very good, if scoped u are prob best off with a bandolier type i tryed the mikes an like it alot but if u want leather go to pistol packing.com they have a very very nice set up that many people would recomend

Inexpensive?  You'e gonna put that nice guin in  cheapo holster?  :o   Ok, ok...I've used the Hunter brand before and they're pretty good.  Not sure abou any cros-draw model they my make but a website check would show them to you.  Another inexpensive route could be Galco.  I've never used them myself but know of a few that do and many others on-line that have suggested them for various firearms.  They also make some of the Ruger branded holster shown in the Ruger catalogs.  Personally, I'll be carrying my Acusport 45 in a Mitch Rosen "Sport" holster. Check out the site but it may be more than you wish to spend right now.
Regardless of which route you take, be sure to invest in a GOOD belt as well.  A regular belt won't support the weight of the gun.  A thinker, wider gun belt is a very good idea.

I plan on using my Acusport 45 in the Maine woods this year as well...  may we both find they bring us success!   [/b]

:D Howdy.. I would get a Bianchi #4001 Cyclone II size 8.. It is a cordura padded holster which can be worn on the right hip conventionally or cross draw on the left hip. It has an Adjust-A-Strap which works well. I use a 1 1/2 inch leather belt to hold up my britches and the belt is adequate for a Ruger.. The size 8 will take a 7.5 inch barrel.. I mainly use it with a .45 Colt Blackhawk..It is a reasonably inexpensive holster and mine looks good after 12 years.. from cbagman   Well, he did say inexpensive....

I picked up my holster from Cabela's. Here is a photo.

While it isn't strictly a cross draw holster I wear it either strong side or on left as a cross draw as the mood strikes me. Think I paid at most $40 for it and am pretty sure it was closer to $25. I also have a full custom belt rig for it but never use it preferring this one instead.

Graybeard,
That is a nice looking rig all the way around! My pistol arrives tomorrow but unfortunately I will be out at sea for the next 2 days. Oh well I will have to get aquainted with her over the weekend.

Once you add a picture to the gallery just click on it when viewing it with your right mouse button. Select PROPERTIES and it will give you the URL of the image. Now copy that image by high lighting it and right clicking and selecting copy.

Go to where you want the picture to appear and paste it same as you copied but select paste this time. Now again high light it. Click on the IMG button above the text block and it will then appear as a photo in your message just like mine did.

I wear my wheelguns two ways either cross draw or in a bandito holster, The bandito is the most comfortable type holster hands down, and affordable, also you can set it up for a scoped revolver as well, they will customize it to your handguns dimensions. Using the cross draw holster, El-paso Saddlery is my choice, well made holsters, I also think Elpasso Saddlery have affordable holsters, with top notch quality. Aim small hit small.

I use the Bandito for my scoped SRH.  Very comfortable, and very nice holster.

I think it set me back around a hundred bucks all said and done.

They will customize your holster to your gun though.  When I wear this holster, I don't get the neck fatigue that I have had with some other cheaper hosters (Uncle Mikes).
