All of what these fellas said plus it also seems they seem to shut up around noon anyway. Here in PA during the spring they won't let ya hunt after noon (but in fall....oh boy  ).  :D

Noon hunting

This is my thoughts on the subject of hunting turkeys in the afternoon..And it comes from other biolgist that support my views. They say that it does not hurt anything to hunt in the afternoon. It does not reduce the pressure on the birds.I think it increases the pressure to have hunting up until noon.Because the hunting is not spread over the whole day when you can hunt in the afternoon. It is consentrated from sunup to noon.If folks are going to roost shot they are going to do it wither not the season is in in the afternoons or notMost people do not hunt in the afternoon anyway. Most of the time the hard core hunters are the main one's still in the woods at noon.Kids would not be able to hunt after they get out of school in the afternoon if you could not hunt after noon.I have only scared a hen off the nest one time in the spring and it was in the mid-morning.I think afternoon hunting should be allowed.Know this is my opinuion.if it were not for being able to hunt in the afternoon I would have not gotten half the toms that I have got.I think it is mistake not to hunt in the afternoon.

The main reason for not hunting after noon is the fact that alot of hens, both young and old become alot more active then, i don't buy the fact for breeding reasons, to put it simply, some so called turkey hunters couldn't identify a hen from a gobbler, either close range, or far out of range. I'm not flaming anyone, just stating a fact. How many times have you had hens roosting with gobblers at first light? Quite a few times it has happened to me, for sure. Also, later in the season, some hens do not come off a nest till later hrs in the morning. This spring season was my 36th, also combine that with fall hunting, and that's alot of get ups!!!!!!!!                  slilk 1

Shooting time ends at 1:00 pm here, but that doesn't mean you have to leave the woods. Many times I've been on turkeys at 1:00, but not had any luck calling them in for a shot. I stay with the turkeys for the rest of the day, just watching and following untill they fly up to roost, mark the tree, and be back there all set up about an hour and a half before sunrise the next morning. A little extreme? Maybe, but fun. Not only do we have the 1:00 pm shooting cut off, but you can only hunt on Saturday and Sunday here.

Here in the peoples republic of Maryland we end the turkey hunt at noon also and we can't even hunt on Sundays.  But my bother in North Carolina gets to hunt all day and they have a winter season 17-22 Jan. He tells me he has gotten alot of his birds in the afternoon time frame.
