Shooting Range?
« on: September 05, 2004, 04:41:30 PM »
I have been reading alot lately about the silhouette shooting sport, and my interest has been really perked.  It looks like a very chalenging sport that I wish to give a try.  How is the best way of getting started in this sport?  I am soon to be moving to SE PA for a new job, and was wondering if there are any shooting facilities in this area that would have a silhouette range, or people that I could contact.  Thanks ahead of time.

Hi wfickin.
If you are not too far from Morrisvile, PA, try Falls Township Rifle and Pistol Assoc. www.ftrpa.com. We shoot Silhouette all year round on Thurs Nights. Plus Handgun/.22 Rifles competions once a month. Indoor Silhouette starting first Thursday in October, This is .22 only, Handgun or Rifle. 25 yds. 15 lanes, all animals are scaled.
We have at least one Silhouette shooter who is International, National or a State champion, in Handgun, Rifle, Small and Big bore, they are all more than happy to help any one. email me for more details, if you are in the area i will be pleased to show you the club.

Wflicken,  The closest range in SE Pa. is Atglen sportsmen. They have both SB and HP matches. More in the center of the state is Consolidated Sportsmen of Lycoming Co. Both have web-sites. Atglens is http://198.68.177.62/  And CSLC's is www.lycoming.org/cslc

If you end up closer to Atglen e-mail me or use private messaging.
I'll hook you up. You don't need to be a member to shoot during matches, but if you live close enough, you might want to become a member to shoot anytime.
You can go once or twice as my guest when there's not a match going on.

Your question about getting started .... are you thinking high power or rimfire?
I'm just starting out myself but I've gathered a bunch of good links I found in this forum.

Great advice above and be sure to subscribed to the NRA's Shooting Sports Magazine, I think its 9 dollars for the year.  It lists all NRA sanctioned matches with contact info and when you go to one or two you'll find out about other fun matches in the area.

If you'll be near Philly the Delaware Sportsman's club does silhouette I believe and there is a great club in DELRAN, NJ as well, it all depends on what discipline your looking to get into.

Good luck.
