resizing bullets for the 375 Win
« on: September 05, 2004, 10:31:50 PM »
I have a 375 win and was wondering if it is practical to buy bullets sized for the 38-55 (typically .378-.380) and resize them to .375-.377 for use in my 375 WIn.  There is a lot better selection of those.

Your mileage may vary, but try them unsized first, then size to what you do for the 38-55 before you spring for the .375 dia sizer.  My '94 big bore does just fine with unsized or minimally sized bulltets as cast.

Measured to be .378 diameter as-cast, 278 gr HARD (fingernail won't scratch - linotype or equivalent) Lyman #375449  (264gr) GC FN

Haven't had the time (wimp excuse) to try it in the .375 H&H yet.

4.55" bore diameter Coehorn Mortar.  Shoots 4" (4.500" OD) PVC pipe filled with concrete.  7.5 lbs goes 350 meters with 2 film canisters of FFg or FFFg.

No way! two film canisters of powder send that 7.5 lb projectile 350 meters?  Man, it sure is easy to underestimate power of powder.

Yea.  It really should be further, but the barrel is short (the 7.5 lb projos fill the entire barrel).

Same design, I have one in 16-20-24 oz soda-pop-bottle caliber.  A 24 oz-er will go well over 1000 meters.  Don't know exactly, it was still going up when it cleared the mountain in the back stop area.  24" tube.

Big bore is OK.

What velocities do you push (or keep under?) for cast bullets in the 375 Win?
