What's the Hardest thing about CAS?

Take a minute and add yours.

Mine is going from the house to the truck in all my cowboy getup and having the neighbors see me.

Just confirms their suspicions that I'm the eccentric over there in the Old Haney Place (if this reference isn’t' clear you are a youn'un for sure)

Sitting alongside the road while the State Trooper who jist pulled me over calls in every Law Dawg in a five county area to come see this crazy guy dressed like Gabby Hayes and packing enuff iron & ammo fer a South American revolution!!!!

...no, I didn't get a ticket, but they were a bit taken aback to learn that I'm a Law Dawg too! :)

Explaining this sport to others. "You dress like a WHAT!?"

Funny, the shooting part never seems to bring funny stares. Just the costuming.  :-D

Gee, I never have any problems like ya'lls. Folks are used to me wearing red boots and a yellow ten gallon hat, not to even mention my plaid shirt and blue jeans. I don't know whatcha all are talkin' about.
 :)

What really is hard for me is to pack up after a shoot and head home, especially 3-4 day shoots. Just too much fun and I am sorry to have to leave it and go.

There was a time back then when I used my previous alias and dressed in gunfighter style clothes and such that wasn't hard, but funny. I was on my way to a shoot that was held on a ranch in Rancho Murieta. I stopped at a convienence store and got out to get a cup of coffee. It was a cold morning and I had a bright vest with my badge pinned to it from the club I belong to. I thought little of it, since I had a frock coat on too. Well, as I got my coffee and was about to leave, a gent asks me for directions to a place he was trying to find. I explained I did not know and wasn't from that area. The guy steps back and fires off this classic at me "You are a sheriff and you don't really know much, except that you are out of your jurisdiction"
I shrugged and laughed and we both went our way. I got into the truck to head for the shoot and it dawned on me. The guy never paid any attention to or made any mention of my outfit. He just saw the badge and thought I was the real deal and was miffed because I couldn't help him. Of course this is California and you do get hardened to strange people in strange costumes.  :-D

I would say my wife making me leave early enough my neighbors will never see me dressed in my outfit.   I call those days my wife's religious moments.  She says a lot of "Oh My God's" as I am getting ready.

Hardest part for me is those occasions when there just HAS to be something done around the house on the weekend and I don't get to go shoot.

Hitting that wall....you know, burnout.  Been going through it the last 6 months.  Problem is I love the sport and the people, but just don't feel any excitement for the shoot.  Been recently thinking'bout getting more serious about my costuming and having my guns sent out for a makeovers and maybe buying a couple of new ones.   Kinda feel an itch when I think about it that way.   Gotta wait till we sell our condo first, though.

Singing Bear,

After six (6) years of CAS and 157 Matches - I, too, hit the wall.  Burned out and was not looking forward to the next match.

Remedy?  I hung my guns up for thirteen (13) weeks - didn't even take them out to look at 'em.  Just kind of worked around the house and ignored anything at all with shooting - didn't even visit any of the "wires"...

Then, went into the gunsafe one day and my pistols felt "brand-new"!  Went back out to practice and it was fun!  Took a couple of weeks to get back up to speed, but matches were interesing again.  Changed my approach also - went for "Clean Matches" only.......surprising result - my speed actually improved from 'going clean'.

Just take some time off......I knew I wasn't going to quit for good, as I had too much invested in guns, clothes, ammo, etc.....!

RB, thanks.  :-)   Totally agree with your remedy.  There was talk about burnout on one of the other boards.  Same remedy.  Gonna take a break then do a makeover.  New guns, new costume, different shooting style.   Till then, lots of yard and housework.  :-)  Ahhhl be bock.

The hardest thing for me is trying to carry all that ammo and guns on my motorcycle....I gave up and take the pickup :) And of course like many others the wife keeps trying to ground me from gun shops.

Have to add now that it was finding a club that I really liked to shoot with?!  After 12 years of cowboy action, it has an adage that I think is so true - "I came for the shooting, but stayed for the people!"

Best bunch of good people that I have known to pick up a sport (much less a gun) and the matches are alot of 'good times with good people'.
